The Deyo family are French Huguenots who came to the US in the late 1600s and settled in Ulster Co, New York. The details are in "The Deyo Book" by Hasbrouck. The original edition was written in the 1950s and updated in the mid 1980s. I'm pretty sure the LDS has it on microfilm, though it also is avavilable in several large genealogical libraries. Good Luck in your research.

The Deyo family historical society maintains a web site which is very useful. The site is at http://members.aol.com/bethrn3ca/deyoindex.html

The Deyo name as French is a new one to me, all my information leads me to believe it's an Irish name. Whats the connection?

The work that's been done on the Deyo family as part of the group of French Huguenots who settled in Ulster, NY seems pretty unassailable to me. Lots of creditable people have been working on this for over fifty years. However, I'm no expert on it and I know there are some Deyos that are unaccounted for, including my own. My suggestion would be to go directly to the Deyo Family Association, the Huguenot Society, or "The Deyo Book".

I AM DAUGHTER OF LAWRENCE ARTHUR DEYO, DECEASED IN 1991. HE TOLD ME THAT THE NAME WAS ORIGINALLY PRONOUNCED ...DAYYO'....THAT SOMEWHERE BEFORE HIM THE NAME WAS SPELLED DEYOE...HIS FATHER SPELLED IT DEYO...BUT HE ALSO TOLD ME IT WAS FRENCH. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE DEYOS CAME TO NEW YORK, AND TRAVELLED THRU CANADA. HE HAD HEARD STORIES ABOUT THE MEN WORKING IN LOGGING CAMPS, AND MARRYING INDIAN WOMEN. MY DAD LOOKED FRENCH, AND HAD THE EXTREMELY HIGH CHEEKBONES OF THE INDIANS, SO...HOPE THIS HELPS...

My paternal grandmother 's maiden name was Charlotte Deyo, daughter of James J. Deyo and granddaughter of Joseph Deyo -all of Albany N.Y. I was allways led to believe that the name was French and they emagrated from Canada. I was once told that the origional French spelling could have been either Daighnault or Daignault and could have been pronounced "day-yoh" or "den-yoh".
