I need information on Limestone County Canups from Elkmont, Alabama. I am interested in knowing more about my father, Roy L. Canup,(his given name was Lucian Leroy Canup but he changed it to Roy L). He worked in the Mobile Shipyards during World War II. He married Gladys Daniel and they had four boys. I would be interested in knowing who his mother and father were and any information that may be available. Thank you.

Read your message trying to track down my side of the family. Roy Canup is my grandfather's brother. Gladys Daniels was my great aunt. My father was John R. Canup worked in the shipyards of Mobile when he was a young man and and later went to work at Oak Ridge, Tn. I was born in Mobile 1944. Trying to figure out who D.R Canup is. My Grandfather 'Roy's brother' is Elmer Canup. Not too many Canup's left from the Alabama side. Have a nice day. JW

Robert and Dorothy: Good to hear from you I wondered what happen to you, haven't seen you in years. I think I was talking with Betty and Bob a few years back. I guess I should tell you I am now in columbus, oh retired from the army back after the gulf war in 91. married a girl from up-state NY. I have been trying to trace some family history without much luck. GrandPaw always believed the canup's came out of northern germany, but I spent 15 years in germany and never did find anything close to canup. I was told it either came from Wales or no body knows. My phone is 614-834-1413, unlisted in the phone book. Hope this short message finds you and Dorothy in the best of health. waiting to hear from you guys. JW

unlikely the same Gladys

I had a great-grandma Gladys Daniels whose
maiden name was Kent. Apparently her
Grandfather and brother died of Malaria in
either Arkansas or Alabama - she wasn't sure.
Anyway....desperate measures on this geneology
stuff...Ellen Peters

Robert and Dorothy It's me, John Canup's daughter or as you know me, Roy's Niece. Dad and Roy were half brothers. If you're still around message me. I know where we come from in Germany, I've traced us back to the 1600's.
