Looking for information about Gabaree family in Georgia VT in 1900. Grandfather Roy Edward Gabaree was born there October 15, 1900. Ran away 1917, changed name to Gabriel, never returned to Vermont. Family owned farm. Had siblings. No other details. Any help appreciated.

Just received today a copy of the book: "Georgia, Vermont Vital Records", compiled by Peter S. Mallett and published as Special Publication Number 4, 1995 by the Genealogical Society of Vermont. (I purchased it from NEHGS if you are interested in following up...)

It is essentially an index to the VRs of Georgia, Franklin Co, VT. It references the following primary sources: 13 volumes of (Georgia) Town civil vital records from the late 1700s through about 1910 - as well as four sets of church records: Georgia Plans Baptist (1893-1946), Congregational Church ( 1815-1910), Emmanuel Episcopal Church (doesn't say what years) and Methodist Church of Georgia and North Fairfax (1856-1960).

It is arranged by surname. Gaberee/Gabree is indeed listed - with VRs for that name from pages 104 to 108 -- "many" births and marriages. However, there is no "Roy" and no "Edward" as line items for their own birth or marriage. However, I did see 3 entries listed for children (no names provided in the original record per the compiler) born "to" an Edward...and too "early" to be "this" Edward you speak of. The births were in 1866, 1872 and 1875. The 1872 birth names the wife of "this" Edward as Eliza (Deline) Gabaree.

For what it's worth...

Page 5 has the entry for Audette, John. died 10 March 1903, heart disease, 53 years, 9 months,10 days, widowed, farmer born 31 March 1849, Canada. Vol 8 & Vol 11. As this book is alphabetical there is no all name index to reference in the back, if he had a married daughter in town the only way you could check that is by reading every entry. Good Luck Michelle

I have seen ads for that Georgia Vital Records book and have often wondered if it would be worth my while to purchase. Georgia being near Milton where my Therrien, Denis, and Audet families lived for a time. Would you be so kind as to look and let me know if there are any of those names listed so I would know if it is worth purchasing for myself. Thank you

Looking for proof that Orpha WASHBURN who married Stephen Danforth CHENEY was the daughter of Revolutionary soldier Salathiel WASHBURN and Bathsheba WILBER. Coits Gore is listed as home in the 1790 US Census. I cannot find her 1786 birth in Westmoreland, NH or their marraige in Coits Gore. Bakersfield, Franklin Co, is the likely area they lived as the family was on the warning out list after Salathiel died in 1813. The Cheneys moved to Derry, NH about 1816 and I cannot find a death record there. Please e-mail any help.

Book Notation

Donna,

The book has the following notation on page 90:

"DUNHAM, C.O., Rev., and wife, trans. to East Dover, Vt.; BC"

At the front of the book (pg v) under "Primary Sources" - "BC" is described under "Church Records" - as "Georgia Plains Baptist, 1893-1946".

No year given in the notation, but if you think this is "your" DUNHAM, at least you now have another placename.

Hope this helps... and good luck!

Donna,

Sorry, DURIVAGE is not in the alphabetical listing of surnames. It would be hard to say if there are any DURIVAGE individuals listed under a spouse's surname as there is no index - and 305 pages in the book. Irony here, there "is" a DUNHAM listed though on page 90. (you didn't say that name was in VT - but noticed it in your name). Sorry there isn't a DURIVAGE section...

Would you be so kind as to look and see if there is a Miranda Sarah or Sarah Miranda Durivage listed in the Georgia Vital Records Book.

Thank You in advance for your time and effort.
