Andrea, my name is Karen (Hartzell) Battson. I read your letter on the internet and was very interested. My father was Finnis E. Hartzell, brother to Mevlin F Hartzell(Uncle Pete). I grew up with your father, whom we called Junior. My youger sister Patricia was about the same age. My father was killed in WWll when I was 6 years old. Uncle Pete became a father figure to me untill his death in 1951 or 1952, I can't remeber for sure. Aunt Jewel, Lee and Dean still live in Woodward, Okla. My mother and Aunt Jewel are the only surviving members of that branch of the Hartzell family. All of my father's brothers and sister are no longer living. If you would like more information, you may contact me.

I am the granddaughter of Volen Curtis Hartzell,
brother of Ace Hartzell. I have some information
about the line, but am missing information about
the generation that you are asking about. I
remember Pete in Woodward many years ago and knew
that he was related. I would be happy to share my
information with you. Write me at jesimp@swbell.net.

My mother was Betty L. Hartzell Phillips. I know that she spoke several times of a Simon Hartzell. I believe that he was a brother of my grandfather, Wylie Hartzell. My mother passed away a year ago May, but did considerable research on the Hartzell family. My father has the information and I can check on it and see what I can find on Simon. My Uncle Bob Hartzell who lives in Paige Arizona also does history on the family and has traced it all the way back to PA, I believe in Sommerset. I do know that there was a Simon Hartzell that was a POW in the Civil War and died in Andersonville Prison in GA. We have copies of his enlistment papers, wage receipts and death certificate. Would be interested in exchanging information with you. I believe my mother has a very comprehensive tree of the Hartzell family. Will talk to my dad and if so can scan it and send it to you.

Forgot to mention that I reside in Aurora, NE. I have checked the state map and can not find a Homesville, NE. I will keep checking.
