Surnames: Trout, La Tourrette, Anderson, Hurley, Dipboye, Goodyear
My name is Sue La Tourrette and my Grandmother's father was William Parker Trout, son of Marcus Trout. Unfortunately, William was entered into records as "Parker" instead of William Parker and this makes it very difficult for anyone to track him and his family. My Grandmother, Willie Capitola Trout was born in 1884 to Eva Anderson and W.P. Trout. His parents, Marcus Trout and Phoebe Hurley, were her grandparents. I have traced Phoebe to Arbena Dipboye and Joannan Hurley from Salem Indiana. Joannan was born about 1818. I traced Arbena Dipboye's parents to Roseanna Goodyear and Abraham Dipboye born in 1785 in Carlistle, Pennsylvania. I found Roseanna Goodyear was born in Hessen, Germany in 1792. This is all very recent information for me - I didn't find the family tree until I found some papers left by my later father, William E. La Tourrette. He was the son of Willie Capitola Trout. I read your posting with very much interest and found out a little more information that I needed to add to my family tree, the La Tourrette family tree.

Great to hear from you.

My wife Kathy and I spent several days in and around Henry County, Indiana in the spring of 2007 locating burial sites
and gathering information our my ancestral lines including Trout, Hurley, Dipboye, Summers, Goodyear and Coon. We have photographs of the headstones of Levi Trout and his wife Margaret (Thompson) Trout, Phoebe Jane (Hurley)Trout, wife of Marcus Trout, Joanna Hurley and his daughters Arbena and Emaline, Rosanna (Goodyear) Dipboye, wife of Abraham Dipboye as well as the cemetery in which Abraham Dipboye is
buried. His headstone had been destroyed by vandals. We could not locate the headstone of Arbena (Hurley) Dipboye, wife of Joanan Hurley even though records indicate that she is also buried in Otterbein Cemetery in Chesterfield, Indiana.

I have been searching for sometime, without success, for the burial site of Marcus Trout. We know that after the death of his wife Phoebe in 1878 in Henry County, Indiana Marcuas moved his family to South Haven Township, Sumner County, Kansas where he owned a grain farm and fruit orchard
and where he is found on both the 1880 U.S. census and the 1885 Kansas State census.

By 1887 we find him in Springfield, Seward County, Kansas where he is described as a worhty townsman in an article in the town newspaper(The Courant) detailing the death of his son W.P. Trout in a fall from the town windmill. Since The Courant first published on August 5, 1887 we know that Marcus arrived in Springfield , Seward County, Kansas sometime between the 1885 Kansas State census and the publishing of the article in the Courant on or after the first publication date of August 5, 1887. I assume that the W.P. Trout who passed away was in fact William Parker, your great grandfather. I found the article in the Liberal, Kansas library while reviewing micro film of early Seward county newspapers while on a family history trip in 2004 and have a copy in my possession. My great grandmother was Violet Bertha Trout, daughter of Marcus Trout and Phoebe Jane (Hurley) Trout. She married my great grandfather Harry Clay Nelson in Springfield, Kansas on November 15, 1888. I have a copy of their marriage certificate.

Violet Bertha and Harry Clay divorced in the early 1900's and she remarried to Gus. C, weber. She is buried next to Gus in LinnGrove Cemetery in Greeley, Colorado.

I have brief histories of my ancestral lines which I would feel priveleged to share with you if you have an interest. I also have another contact in Michigan who is researching the Trout line and could put you in touch with her.

I would be interestred in knowing if my assumtion about W.P. Trout is correct and if you have any indication on the burial site of Marcus Trout.

How exciting it is to hear from you and to share information in our joint quest for knowledge of our ancestors.

I'm sorry I don't have any information on the Dout, Goodyear or Summers families. My information traces the Dipboye and Hurley families to the Anderson family and Trout family. It was wonderful to "meet" one of our long lost relatives even through corresponding. Thank you for returning my note. Sincerely, Sue Collins
