According to the book "History of Griffin, GA. 1840-1940" by Quimby MELTON, Jr., "Lewis Lawrence GRIFFIN was born in SC on 03 Oct 1794. He was the son of William and Rachel EVANS GRIFFIN. His father was the son of Peter and Elizabeth OWENS GRIFFIN. In the early 1800s, Wm. GRIFFIN's widow moved with her several children from SC to GA and settled in Twiggs Co."
There is a portrait of L.L. GRIFFIN and several pages of his involvement in the establishment of Griffin, GA. Contact me if you need further info.

I have a Lewis Griffin, born VA whose parents were Richard and Margaret Griffin (one of them was originally Griffith). Lewis was the younger son, too young to enlist in the Revolutionary war but his older brother got him in, to tend horses. Of course, he wound up at Cornwall Battle at the Guildford Courthouse.

Lewis drew a pension in TENN, some of his descendents wound up in Missouri. Do you by any chance connect to this group?

From the information I have, your Lewis Griffin is not the same Lewis Lawrence Griffin in my line. I'm not sure that my information is accurate but this is what I have:

Lewis Lawrence Griffin was the son of William and Rachel Evans Griffin and grandson of Peter and Elizabeth Owens Griffin. This is confirmed by deeds in Laurens Co, SC. Lewis Lawrence Griffin was born 3 October 1794 in Laurens Co, SC. A newspaper of Aberdeen, MS reported on December 4, 1856: "General L. L. Griffin of Aberdeen visited his old home in the town which he founded and to which he gave his name. He was given a public banquet by the citizens of Griffin, Georgia, Dec 11, 1856. L.L. Griffin m1) Villa Fauld on Sep 8, 1814 in Twiggs Co, GA. They had a daughter, Vinvincey. Both mother and daughter died in 1816. Source: History of Monroe Co, MS. Gen Griffin m2) Elizabeth Littleton. She died in Lowndes Co, MS of apoplexy on 1 Apr 1843. Newspaper notice says: Mrs. Elizabeth L.. Griffin, consort of Gen Lewis L. Griffin, late of the state of Georgia, in the 40th year of her age. Gen Griffin m3) Elizabeth Woodson Daniel of Noxubee Co, MS on March 16, 1845. His adopted son and nephew, Lewis Lawrence Griffin II married her sister, Emma Daniel. His adopted son was the blood son of Eli Shorter Griffin, brother of Gen Griffin.

Let me know if this follows along any information that you have.
