My Stalder line is from the immigrant ancestor Jacob Stalder and his wife Anna who, with their children and some of Jacob's from his first marriage, came to America from Canton Bern in Switizerland in 1819 and settled in Athens Co., Ohio, in what became known as the Swiss Colony. Other surnames in this extended family group of 70 some persons are: De Steigeur or Steiger, Finsterwald, Weiss, Lichti, and others.
Ada Davenport, your Frederick Karl Merit's father, John J. Stalder, was a half brother of my grandfather, Hiram Frederick Stalder. I have extensive information on these Stalders and their descendants and will be happy to share with anyone who would like to e-mail me.

My name is Sierra Stalder. I was born in Athens, OH. and have traced
my family back to my great-grandfather Clarence Stalder. As an
ameteur however this is far as I am able to get without petitioning
to the social security records. If you have any information that
could be of use to me I would appreciate it immensly. Thank You.

I am also a descendant from Jacob Edward Stalder through John J. Stalder from Kansas. I would be interested in comparing information that you have with that which I have found. Ada Carpenter

Today I finally got from my sister family names. We come from Barron Jacob Stalder From Switz., son Herman (Hiram) fredrick Stalder married Ellea Carroll, daughter Effie Stalder. Effied is my Great Grandmother.

I am trying to do this reaserch for my sons and my mother.

Do you show Herman (Hiram) in your records? I was told Jacob came here so he could get a divorce and he came with 6 of his 12 children. And there is a story that his was having his servants was his 50 Linen shirts in a river in Ohio, he was Drunk and ended up buying swanp land. And that is how he setteled in Ohio. Who knows probably just a family story.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Lisa
