Hi! I'm looking for anyone related to the George Mader family who lived in Harrison Twp, Outagamie Co, WI, before 1872. His wife's name was Franciska (?). My great-grandmother's name was Magdalena Mader, and she was one of nine children, 7 girls, 2 boys. Mary, Frances, Joseph, George, Margaret, Magdalena,(?), Mathilda and Josephine.
Magdalena married John Raab of Auburndale, WI in 1890.
One of the Maders may have been married into the Whitman family from the Oshkosh area. There may also have been a connection between these Maders and the Maders who ran/run a German restaurant in downtown Milwaukee, WI.
If any of this sounds familiar, please, please contact me. Thank you!

This sounds like the line that belongs to my father's great-uncle who came to USA before WW1. My father's name was Julius Karl Bela Mader born in Hungary but the family line came from around Thueriger Germany. I myself was born in Duesseldor Germany. Came to USA in 1952. If I can be of some help contact me.

Hi Dutch,
Please tell me more about this Mader family! George Mader (Sr) would have come over from Germany by the 1860s. His wife was listed as Franciska in 1880. Their birthplaces were listed as "Byre." I believe they were here by 1864 because they had a daughter, Mary, who was 16 in 1880 and her birthplace was Wisconsin. My g-grandmother was Magdalena Mader. She worked in Auburndale, Wood Co, WI, where she met my g-grandfather, John Raab, while working as a housemaid. They were married in Outagamie Co, WI, and returned to Auburndale to live/run a boarding house. In 1900 they moved to Marshfield, WI.
Please tell me more! Heidi

My grandfather's death certificate listed him
as Hungarian. Were any of your relatives at one
time called Moder?

Let me know.

My mother in law is a Mader. Her family came from Russia though they were Germans, they are called Volga Germans and of the spelling I have seen of the Mader name is Moder, Moeder, Mader.

Some Volgas did go out through Hungary during the late 1800's and into the early 1900's.

Hi, I know this is a long shot but am hoping that perhaps someone finds something familiar in the names listed below.

I am looking for the Mader family in central Wisconsin. I have a record of John J. Mader (born in Wisconsin, father and mother born in PA and OH, respectively) being married to Lena (born in Germany)married 1904, and living in Shawano Cty. Wisconsin in 1910. They have two children: Violet (b. 1908) and Irvin (b. 1904 in Tigerton, Shawano Cty) who eventually married Myrna Louise Peterson in 1929.

I really appreciate any information anyone can provide.

I think the John J. Mader you are referring to is my mom's grandfather's brother. While I do not have sourced documentation for John's wife and children (as you have), I can tell you I know that John J. did reside in Tigerton, as referenced in both his mother's (Katherine Zehner) and father's (George Mader Sr.) obituaries from Winneconne Wisconsin newspapers.

Hope this helps you make a connection.
