Surnames: SHARAR, SOLADAY, JOHNSON, RUSSELL
John SHARAR moved from Keithsburg, Illinois to Jefferson Township, Louisa Co, Iowa in about 1841. The 1850 census shows John with wife Margaret SOLADAY (various spellings)SHARAR and children Jacob, John, Frederick, Mary, Elizabeth, Joseph and Margaret. There apparently was another son Daniel born 1834 but all that is known of him is that he liked fast horses. The farm was destroyed in the flood of 1851 and John died in the cholera outbreak that followed and was buried in the mass cholera grave in the Hawkeye cemetary located in Des Moines Co. about one mile south of Oakville. The family fragmented with Jacob going West to seek his fortune, John married Harriet JOHNSON, daughter of Archibald JOHNSON, also of Jefferson township and moves with that family to Hardin Co., Iowa taking Joseph and Elizabeth with him. Frederick married Elizabeth Russell and that family still has members in northern Des Moines, Co. but Mary b.ABT 1836, Margaret b. Abt. 1842, Margaret Soladay Sharar b.1796 and, of course, Daniel all disappear from the family records. Any information on these persons or the flood and cholera outbreak of 1851 would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I don't think these are from the same family. This Sharar family first appears in Ohio in 1825 and no ties to PA Sharars have been found.

Just getting back on after years off due to lack of time. I have An Edward Wolf who had a son named Edward Wolf with a Lillie May Sharar. Lillie May then married an Arndt and then a Raymond Meloen. Raymond Meloen adopted Edward Wolf, born in 1901 when he married Lillie in 1907. Edward was born in PA. Raymond change his name to Edgar A when he was adopted. They got married in Illinois.
