Dowells and Native American heritage

I would like to find out if anyone has information on any possible native american heritage in the Dowell families. In general, native americans were not "tracked" by the U.S. Government until the early 1900s, and even then it was not an easy task. I am just curious to find out what anybody knows out there. Thanks.

From what I have gathered, there was a Nancy (Jones?) around 1814 married to John L. Dowell (b. 1813) who may have been Indian, there was also Anna Elizabeth Wilson married to James McClellan Dowell and she was the daughter of a Wilson and Stout, and the Stout line had Native American roots. Look to the Maternal sides for Indian blood.

George Dowell married to a Polly Tomberlin in the early 1800's. Polly was of Native American heritage. It has been said she was of the Cherokee Nation.

According to family Bible records my ancestors are George Dowell (b.1789 - d.?) and Polly Tomberlin (b. abt. 1798 - d. ?)Family tradition says that Polly Tomberlin had Cherokee Indian blood, but the amount is unknown. George and Polly Dowell had the following children: Patsy Emeline b.1813; Rebecca Elizabeth b.1815; John Allen b. 1817; Eliza Jane b.1820; George Martin b. 1822 in Ogrash Valley, Alabama; Mary White b.1824; Reuben Hickman b.1826; Keziah Elvira b.1828; Nancy Caroline b. 1830; and Priscilla America b. 1832. My g grandfather is George Martin Dowell who married Elizabeth Catherine Knight ( 1832 perhaps in Wales or England)circa 1845 probably in Muscatine, Iowa. George Martin Dowell and Elizabeth Knight had a son Alonzo Henry Dowell (b. 1847 in Fairport, Muscactine,Iowa. Alonzo married Rosamond De Moss (b. 1852)in 1867 in Fairport, Muscatine, Iowa. Alonzo and Rosamond are my g grandparents and both died in Stroud, Lincoln Co. OK in 1929 and 1933 respectively. Does anyone have information on these Dowells particularly on who the parents of George Dowell and Polly
Tomberlin were? Also does the location of "Ogrash Valley" in Alabama sound familiar to anyone? Any help would be much appreciated.

Neva, I also have James Annias, Jewell Henry and Clarisa Ann as the children of George and Polly. Would you send me another e-mail, I think I must have deleted what you sent me yesterday and I'm not sure I have your e-mail address written correctly.

Neva, Could this George Dowell...have been..
possible...for him to have been born in 1759..instead...of 1789??
Reason I ask...We now think...John Dowell..and Anne Franklin...had a child by
that name...and is believed..he was born about 1759...Our records...had shown...a son
John Dowell..whether Jr..or not..not known...
by us..but we think we have found him...and
he had a brother...George...we had no records
for..but now believe this George was a son of John & Anne Franklin.
We only know. This George, served
in the Revolutionary War. Was discharged in N.C. and was to have gone to Indiana from
there...not back to Va...

If your this direction..

I would like to know more...I have other family records...of other brother and sisters
or children..of John and Anne F. Dowell...
Very Interested...Bernie... E-mail...
