Wondering if anyone can help me. I have a death certificate for Wilhelm Friedrich August Schilling died at sea on the ship 'Fritz Reuter'. On the back it says Marine Register of deaths. death on board the Fritz Reuter' sailed from Hamburg on the sixteenth day of June 1877 and arrive at Rockhampton on the fifth day of October 1877. Anyone know if there is a passenger list somewhere that I can look at? He was only 2 years old would have been traveling with his parents and at least one other siblings a girl Annie born about 1872 and died 1878 Queensland. The problem I have is his parents names have been spelt a lot of different way in Queensland's Birth death and Marriages. His father has been known as Fritz, Friedrich Christian, Friedrich and Frederick Schilling. While his mother has been known as Friedericke Lipin, Friederike Ernestine Leppien, Friederike Leppin, Friederike Wilhelmina Leppin, Frederika Leppin and Fredericke Ernstine Wilhelmine Leppen and on my gg grandfather (brother to Wilhelm Friedrich August Schilling) first marriage his mother is known as Frederica Dippien and Second marriage she is Frederica Lippien. Any help would very much be appreciated?

Hi Mandy
You may have already found it but there is a passenger list for the Fritzrueter - try the Rockhampton Historical Society or the Qld State Archives. My ancestors (Great Great Grandmother and her first husband) were on the same ship and I have the same hassles with name variations. They also lost their little baby on the voyage, but she gave birth on the voyage as well. I'm still trying to find anything about them and their roots in Germany......Good luck

I can give you the website that you can trace your ancestor on from the passenger manifest - it's a free government wewbsite

Hi Mandy, my GGmother came out to Rockhampton on the Fritz Reuter at the same time.
According to the write up in the local newspaper "Morning Bulletin" 13th October, 1877 (http://.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/6576459)(Trove)
It is mentioned that 5 children and 1 adult died on the trip over from Hamburg/Plymouth. The Captain mentions that the 1 adult died from consumption (tuberculosis). Could he have been your relative.
The passenger list can be found on Ancestry.com.au - Hamburg Passenger Lists, 1850-1934.
Hope you find it ok.
