Looking for information about Kenneth Rimmer (my grandfather). The information I have found so far is.. He was born in DaLorraine, Manitoba Canada in 1911, to George Rimmer and Virginia or Victoria (Blakelock)Rimmer. George Rimmer was appearantly an immigrant from England though it is not clear if he was married or not before the move to Canada. George Rimmer moved from Manitoba to SanGuedo, Alberta to Tramping Lake Saskatchewan where Ken Rimmer met and married Katherine Anne Weber. They had four children (Ramona, Geraldine, Ronald and Bruce and settled in Thunder Bay Ontario. Any information I can get on this line pre Kenneth Rimmer or George Rimmer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Oops, George Rimmer was married to Alice Blakelock, sorry, not Virginia (Virginia Landon) was his second wife). George Rimmer was appearantly one of 7 brothers, born in London, to a family of merchant seamen. Though he personally was involved with the law, possibly a Notary. Any information about the English side of this family would be appreciated.

I'm new to this system and site but would be interested to hear more. I live in London, England, and my father's family comes from Liverpool. The name Rimmer is very common in that part of the country and extends back around 300 years. Apparently the original Rimmers came from Holland to the North West of England to escape religious persecution. My father, Fred Rimmer, now 76 years old, says that the root of the name is "the pople who settled on the RIM of the MERE. A MERE is a salt lake in the Cheshire rae of Engalnd. I have never validated this comment. Liverpool was also the base for a large amount of US/ Canada emigration in the 19th century, and is a traditional marimitime base. I was recently in Alberta, Canada, on business and found that Rimmer was quite a well known name in Japser area of the Canadian Rockies. In fact there was a famous Club Professional named Rimmer at the Jasper Lodge Golf Club in the 1930s. The current pro will tell you about him (I was asked if I was a relative).

Bryan - Your message was very welcome as I have just learned that my Grandfather (Frederick Rimmer!) emigrated from Liverpool in 1905. His father was Thomas Rimmer (1854-1934) and his mother was Sarah Ann Gaff (1859-1933). I am presuming that all of these people hailed from Liverpool, but since I just made this connection, I haven't started researching there yet.
Your comments about the Canadian golf pro also struck home with me. My father, Harry Rimmer (1908-1951) was a top rated amatuer golfer in the 30's and 40's in the Chicago area. After WWII he became a club pro in Marshall, Michigan until his death. But, I don't think he was ever in Western Canada.
Please e-mail me at and lets compare notes in more detail.

Hi Bryan,
I am from Wellington Point, which is in the Redlands Shire, 20 miles south east of Brisbane, Australia. My Grandmother's maiden name was Bella Rimmer, born 4/9/1882 in Southport Lancashire, the daughter of Richard Rimmer(father John Rimmer) and Ellen Rimmer nee Blundell. I understand that there are a host of Rimmers in this area but wondered if there is any connection between us.

I have replied to Bryan's message as well, but have
yet to hear back from him. As you may have already
determined, there are literally hundreds of Rimmer
families in that general vicinity (probably because
of the name derivation Bryan has described). I now
live in Seattle, Washington, USA, but my grandfather
his sisters, and eventually his parents, settled in
the area around Joliet, Illinois which is about 45 miles
SW of Chicago.

If you would like to explore the possiblity of common
Rimmer ancestors, send me a message at

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

David Rimmer
son of Henry (Harry) Thomas Rimmer, 1908-1951
son of Frederick Rimmer, 1881-1951
son of Thomas Rimmer, 1854-1934
son of John Rimmer, unknown

I am one of that host of Rimmers. My Grandfather, William Rimmer, had ten children. I have a family tree dating back a few centuries, and you may be on one of those branches.
