Identifying a red line in passenger list

The RMS Arundel Castle arrived in Durban on 24/10/1958 with passengers who embarked at Cape town. Eight of the names on the passenger list (as found on have a red crayon line drawn through them and they were all seamen in the Navy and had something to do with the HMS Diligence, Southampton. Someone has written at the bottom in the same red crayon "8 F & C".
Can anyone tell me what this red line meant? Was it cancelling their trip? What does the F&C mean?

Many thanks

Hello Rose, I have seen the same on a Cunard passenger list to Canada in 1954. The passengers all travelled so it doesn't indicate a cancellation. The passengers concerned were all serving military (RAF), the tickets were paid for by the Air Ministry and the addresses were all "c/o Air Ministry, London". I don't know what "F & C" means; did you find out?
