I am researching the family of Hiram and Margaret Day of Fayette County, Pennsylvania. Hiram lived 1822-1893. He and Margaret are buried at Mt. Moriah cemetery in Springhill township, Fayette County, PA. His son John Morgan Day (1855-1943) was my husband's gr-grandfather. I have the names of his siblings as Martha, William, Emaline, Theodore and Jane but have no further information on them.

Hiram and Margaret had a daughter Malinda Jane who married Benjamin Franklin Weimer. The only thing I know about Hiram is from the census which changed almost every census--1850 born Ohio, 1860 born Washington DC, 1870 born Pa, 1880 born Washington City. When I was researching my Weimer line, I was sent the death certificate for Margaret Day by a descendant of one of the daughters of Malinda Jane Day Weimer. The informant on the certificate was John M. Day and he did not list information on Margaret's parents or where they were born. Have you found anything more on Hiram and his place of birth or located Margaret Day on the 1900 census.? Thank you for any help you could give me.

I have never been able to definitely determine where Hiram Day was born because of the discrepancies in the census. The 1850 census has Ohio, 1860 has D.C., 1870 has Pennsylvania, and 1880 has Washington City. The information on the death certificate would have been provided by John Morgan Day, my husband's gr-grandfather. I do not have any information on Margaret Davis Day's family.
I have the following children for Hiram and Margaret:
i. Malinda, b. 1842, married Benjamin Wiemer
ii. Theadore, b. 1845, m. Charlotta ?
iii. William Day, b. 1848, d. before 1860
iv. Martha, b. 1852
v. Mary E., b. 1852
vi. John Morgan Day, b. May 22, 1856, m. Barbara Baker, May 19, 1887, d. December 2, 1943
vii. Ann E., b. 1859
I would welcome any additional information on Malinda's family as I have only found her in the 1870 census with children Estelle, William and Hiram. The surname was spelled Wimer on that census.
I also would gladly share what I do have.

I will send you more info on Benjamin Franklin and Malinda which I have from his civil war file. On the death certificate, John M. Day was living in Cheat Haven, Pa. I have not found him or his mother, Margaret, in 1900 but did find John M and Barbara with his mother Margarite in 1910. I have heard before that Margaret was a Davis but had no source for it. How have you found her maiden name?

You probably would have a hard time finding Malinda on the census as their last name is indexed so many different ways.
In 1880 they are in Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., Pa
1880 27th Ward, Pittsburgh, Allegheny, Pennsylvania

Lizzie is Elizabeth Hazel, twin to John Linton Day. He went by Linton. Lizzie was my husband's grandmother.
I found Malinda living with son Robert in 1920 listed as Jane Weimer in the 13th Ward of Pittsburgh, Sheet 11B.

I know I am responding to an old thread, but I hope you are still out there. I am researching this same family, (Hiram and Margaret Day) and am quite stuck as I can't find any good sources on their birth place or parent's names. Have you been able to find anything over the years? I don't want to waste time looking under rocks you have already thoroughly searched. But I hate to give up and hope this isn't a dead end. Any information you have and can share with me would be greatly appreciated! thank you! Julie Jmanwarren@gmail.com
