I am looking for a Schug family that came to America
somewhere between 1839 and 1859. They had a daughter,
Louisa Schug, who married Abraham Schneider Jr. in
Tuscarawas County, Ohio in 1859. She was born 19 Sept.
1839 and immigrated to the U.S. when she was a little girl. She was born in Prussia Germany, as was Abraham. They settled in and around Clay and Dover Twnships in the county
of Tuscarawas Ohio. Abraham is my g-g-g-uncle.
Any information would be appreciated. I thought for a long time that this name was spelled "Shug" instead of "Schug". I have those ever elusive, and sometimes unschooled, census takers to thank for that. Thanks. Alvin R. Tibbett.

Hi Alvin,
I believe that I may also be looking for the Schug (Schugh) family. I will give you a brief outline and I hope we can exchange information in the future.
I found the marriage record for my ggg grandmother who was married to Mathias Factor (b.1821 Alsace Lorraine d.1885 Mt. Sterling, IL) and it says that her name is Barbery Wienman/ Wineman (b.1817 Alsace Lorraine d.1910 Mt. Sterling, Brown, IL) Barbery & Matthias Factor were marr)13 APR 1847 Coshocton Co., OH. I was, at that time, prepared to look for the Wineman family.
Well, I received information that came off of her death certificate and her name was Barbery Schugh. She was married at least once before she married my ggg grandfather. She married ca 1840 to a Mr. Croniser. They had a son, George W. Croniser (b. ca 1841/3 NY and he died before his mother because he is mentioned as her deceased son in her will (From:Brown County, ILL Probate Records).
It's possible that she married a second time to a Mr. Wineman.
Barbery & Matthias Factor had:
1. Magdalene b.5 MAR 1848 at Franklin, Coshocton, OH
2. Margaret b.c FEB 1850 at " " " "
3. Matthias b.10 MAY 1852 at " " " "
4. Mary Ann b.1855/1856 at Coshocton, Coshocton, OH
5. Charles Hardin b.5 JAN 1870 at Muskingham, OH and he was an adopted son.
There was a family that was living near the Factor children and this is who they were:
On the 1880 Census, living close to George Factor & Aschbachers is this family, I wonder if he is a brother to Barbara??

The elder Jacob and Julia, as well as Frederick are my wife's ancestors.. very interesting find.. I have the obituary of Julia Schug from Brown County. They originally settled in Guernsey County, Ohio, and the paper said Julia Ann Castor (Gerster?) went to high school in Baumholder, Germany.

Valentin Schug and his children came to Fulton County, Ohio in 1871. His son Valentin Schug married Mary Bach from Fulton County, Ohio, and they lived in Chicago, then Miohigan near Riga, until moving to Brooklyn, NY in the 1880s. I believe they are related to the Schugs in Fulton County, Ohio, who are from the Baumholder, Germany region.
