I would like any info on Ransom Barris who married mary Alice Beamer, in Michigan. He would be a ggg uncle. Does anyone know how far this line goes? I don't know Ransom's parents names. Ransom & Mary Alice settled in Dorr, Michigan.
Any info would be appreciated, thanks!
I have a Ransom John Barris in my family. He was born December 1846 in Michigan (probably Bloomfield Twsp, Oakland Co., MI.). He died 14 Jan 1924 in Glendale, Los Angeles Co., California. He married Mary Alice Beamer 31 December 1876 in Dorr, Allegan Co., MI. She was b. June 1856 in Michigan. Her father was Unknown Beamer and her mother was Harriett ? They had five children and appears to have adopted a sixth. They were Edward B. Barris b. Aug 1878 in Dorr, Allegan Co., MI., Bessie M. Barris b. May 1882 in Dorr, Allegan Co., MI., Mary Leah Barris b. 22 May 1886 in Dorr, Allegan Co., MI., William J. Barris b. July 1888 in Dorr, Allegan Co., MI., Carl J. Barris b. 10 July 1892 in Dorr, Allegan Co., MI. and the adopted Clara Barris b. abt 1902 in Dorr, Allegan Co., MI.
His 2nd wife was Marguerita Harmer m. 24 Jan 1920.
I have his parents and siblings as well as his mother’s side going back to 1534. He is also my GR GR Uncle.
Thank you for responding. Sounds like we are related.
I have some info I'd be glad to share, especially on Mary Alice Beamer's father. I also have some pictures of some of the Barris girls. I had no idea Clara was adopted!
The Barris family is on my grandmother's side.
Mary Alice Beamer is connected to the Croninger line, and I have a lot of info on them.
The Beamer and Barris lines are my brick walls and I have not been able to find much on Ransom's father,
and Mary's family.
I can email you privately for more info, if you like.
Sincerely, Kimberly Paul
It looks like we are definitely cousins. Emailing is best. I would prefer doing it this way only because I can send and receive information that I could not get using a message board. Briefly the Barris’s have been a pain in the tail. It is my grandmother’s line. She was a Barris. I have done great things with the rest of my family but have basically struck out with them till about a year ago. So consider this to be a work in progress. To begin with, I live just north of Seattle, Washington. My mother was Marjorie Mills her parents were James William Mills and Dorothy Barris. Dorothy’s parents were Daniel W. Barris and Fermaline Diana Yant. Daniel’s parents were William J. Barris and Mary Ann Croninger also parents of Ransom John Barris.
I only have a few generations on the Mills. On the Barris only two or three and the Croningers is my best with 11 generations. I am adding to this file as we speak…….I think that you may have more than I have. I am more than willing to give you what I have if it will help. I am interested in which sibling on Daniel W. Barris you come from?
I descend from Zeruiah Barris, sister to Daniel, which I noticed you don't have anything on. Zeriuah is my grandmother's mother, my g grandmother, who we used to call "GiGi". I don't have any info pertaining to Daniel Barris. What I have gotten from the Barris side is from my grandmother's handwritten history of our family. Like you, the Barris side has been a tough nut to crack, as well as the Beamer side.
The children of Ransom John Barris and Mary Alice Beamer are:
Edward Beamer Barris b. 1878
Zeruiah Barris b 1880
Bessie M. Barris b. 1882
Mary Leah Barris b 1886
Carl Joseph Barris b. 1892
Clara Alice Barris b 1902
I grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan, which isn't far from Dorr, in Allegan County, Michigan. I remember one summer, my grandmother and my mom and I went to Dorr, and found the cemetary where some of the Bariss' are buried.
When I was a child, we used to have Dorr family reunions at my grandparents house, and I have pictures of some of those reunions.
My husband and I live in Nebraska now, near North Platte.
On a side note,
Since Ransom J. Barris and Mary Alice moved to California, I wonder if Chuck Barris, the former host of the Gong Show, is related to our Barris'. I've never been able to find out, but it sure would be interesting if he was.
