Here is what I have....

b. 1786 - Isle of Mull, Scotland, d. 11 Sep 1869- 83 yrs., m. Matilda McNaugton

Capt. James Porter came to this country from Northern Ireland with his father, Carlisle Porter when he was 12 years old (1798) to visit friends who settled in "Old Derry" near Harrisburg, PA by the name of Moorehead.  His father was called back to Ireland on business and left James Porter with the Mooreheads.  His father was never heard from after that.  The Mooreheads raised him.

His father left an estate.

He married Matilda McNaughton in PA.

James Porter came across the country in a covered wagon with 9 children (I think) and he was a widower.

One of his lovely daughters was Aunt Pricilla.  I did not know any of the others.  Her daughters were Cousin Effie (She was Mama's choicest friend -- they were the same age). Her husband was Colby Davies.  Cousin Annie was another daughter of James Porter, here daughter was Bonnie.  Annie married Harvey Reece.  Cousin Fan was married to a Mr. Howard.

Matilda McNaughton Porter was buried in the Old Derry Church cemetery near Harrisburg, PA

Wife: Matilda McNaughton b 1791 d 03 Jun 1836 Hershey, Dauphin, Pennsylvania and is buried in Old Derry Church Cemetery.

Children: Annie Porter, Caroline Porter, Elizabeth Porter, Harriet Porter, James Porter, Newton Porter, Priscilla Porter, William Porter and Martha Ann Porter 1822-1907.

Hi Cheryl

The Captain James Porter who brought out the first free settlers from England to Australia on the Hebe in 1815 is not the one who went to the USA.

I have that Priscilla Porter 1818-1880 married Samuel Williams 18 Jan 1848 in Champaign, Ohio and have them in the 1880 census in Chicago, Cook, Illinois.
They had 9 children. Is this who you are looking for?
