My G-G Uncle Harry Cambron was one of the men that had been murdered in 1911...
I am doing a family research project and need as much information... news paper clippings, photographs... anything that can help me in my endeavor...

Any help would be appreciated...

Sincerely,
Jennie Ruth Adams DeLurey

The author is Kenneth D. Scott and The Pan Press publishing house in Tahlequah Oklahoma printed it. It was printed in 1964 and is a little difficult to find. I do not know if there was ever more than one printing.

There's another book, also out of print but probably easier than "Frozen Grass" to find, called "The Last Free Man." It has pictures and an account of the Little High Rock Massacre. It was written by Dayton O Hyde, The Dial Press, New York, 1973.

Frozen Grass and the Last Free Man are both fairly inaccurate portrayals of what happened in Little High Rock Canyon in 1911. The Last Free Man is really not even worth reading. The most accurate is a book called “The Last Indian Massacre” by respected historian Dr. Effie Mona Mack. My great uncle Mort West was on the Posse that found your great uncle. I have many resources and information on the episode if you would like to contact me. My email is mdschopper@hotmail.com

Hi,
My familiy lives in Syracuse N. Y. and while going thru my fathers things this week after his passing we found 7 photos
of the Little High Rock Canyon Massacre. These photos are notated as being done by G. L. Mathews of Cedarville Ca. Copyright 1911. The pictures are also notated with these discriptions: #1 "Indians deserted camp" #2 "Little High Rock Canyon" (showing where the bodies were found), #3 "From Stretcher to sled (show actual bodies with names labeled), #4 "As Bodies Found" (Actual location picture names labeled) #5 "Cam Denio,5 Miles From Scene of Murder" #6 "The Start on Trail From Denio, Feb.16,1911 and last #7 "Posse Leaving Eagleville in snow storm, Feb. 1,1911".
We have no idea how or why these pictures were in my Dads papers.they may have been from my grandfathers stuff,
but it seems interesting that my dad was born on feb. 27,1911
on a farm in western N.Y.and that my grandfather raised sheep. So, if any of these are not in your files already I'l be glad to copy them to you and anyone else you may know who could use them.
Carl

I would like to request a copy of those pictures. They sound like ones that my family had once long ago. All the documentation I had acquired regarding the Massacre has been lost due to an unfortunate car accident the Children and I endured last July.

I am now trying to regather information - newspaper clippings, photographs, vital records everything concerning the Massacre. IF anyone else has any of these very precious documents available please contact me.

Sincerely,
Jennie Ruth Adams DeLurey
