Felix McLaughlin (Catholic) married Mary Prince (Protestant) in the 1830s in Northern Ireland. They boarded a vessal to N. America (not sure of landing place). Settled in the 7th Concession, near Cornwall, Ontario, Canada. Father of Charles. I am trying to add information to this. Felix and Mary were my great-great-great grandparents.

I am looking for information and other relatives of Felix McLaughlin (1807-1887) and Mary Prince (1806-1870) who came from Broughshane, County Antrim Ireland to reside near Avonmore, Ontario. Mary Prince was born in Gretna Green Scotland and moved to County Down at an early age.

Their children were Ann (Thomas Duff), Ellen, Charles (Rebecca McGuire), Mary, Jane (Benjamin Burton), James (Indian Agent, Marie Buisson), Sarah (Alexander Duff), Felix (Mary Jane Duff), and John (MPP, Jennett Runions). Felix and Mary married June 29, 1828 and set sail the following day living first near Gray's Creek and moving to 2nd concession Roxborough Township. They and many of their descendants are buried in St. Andrew's West and Avonmore cemeteries.

I am descended through Charles and his son John Hugh McLaughlin.

Supposedly there were other brothers of Felix who came to Canada and the U.S. but they lost track of each in the process. Anyone recognize this family?

Margaret McLaughlin and David Oscar Doran in Stormont, Ontario

My Great Grandmother was Margaret McLaughlin, married to David Oscar Doran in Avonmore Ontario on Nov 30 1875. The marriage documents indicate that Margaret was 22 yrs old (b: 1853/4), Catholic, and was born in the United States to parents Patrick and Nancy.

Margaret's Death Certificate, dated March 30, 1906 shows her as age 53 (b: 1853/4)as being married to David Oscar Doran, born in Roxborough, Stormont, Ontario and being a Methodist.

Margaret's tombstone in Osnabruck, Stormont, Ontario give her birth date as Feb 15, 1854 and confirms her marriage to David Oscar Doran and her death date as Mar 30 1906.

I have followed several leads which suggest that her parents were Patrick McLaughlin b: 1824 in Ontario and Ann Nancy Duff b: 1826 in Antrim, Ireland but I have no solid evidence. I'm also confused by her differing birth locations and religions shown on two official documents.

Does anybody have a suggestion as to how I can clarify her ancestry???

I don't have an answer for your specific question re Margaret McLaughlin (b: 1853/4). But I cannot but wonder with the several McLaughlin families living in and around Roxborough, Stormont in that period, that there may be some connection between them and your Margaret however tenuous. And I would feel remiss if I did not reply to your posting.

My great-great grandmother was Ann McLaughlin (b about 1824) who married Thomas Holland in Crysler, Ontario (1836). Family hearsay and some documentation suggest she was sister to Daniel McLaughlin (c 1823), Morey McLaughlin (c1832) and Hugh McLaughlin (c1818) who also lived in Roxborough.

Daniel had a large family. Married to Ellen Driscoll (c1867). The children were:

Patrick (1868)
William (c 1870) (twin)
John (c 1870) (twin)
Mary (c 1874)
Rebecca (1876)
Stephen (c 1879)
Lorie (1881)
Darby (1883)

I don't have any info on the families of Morey and Hugh McLaughlin. But looking into their family history might turn up something interesting for you.

Thank you for the suggestions George. I have looked closely and can see no relationship with your family group, but I appreciate the effort.
