I am also researching the BURROUGHS line from
Stratford. Do you have any info on Charles
BURROUGHS. He had a son Joseph b 1744 who had
a son William b 1770. Please advise.

Dennis Swann, I have listed about all of my BURROUGHS information in the recent 'post' of several generations. Am not now searching for more of that family's descendants. I would like to receive more on the ancestors of any of my line. Good luck in your future searches for them. John Sanford.

My grandmother who inspired my love for genenalogy had the following information. Unfortunately I have few references at this time.
John Burroughs, Jr. (1671-1762 married Patience Hinmen (b. 1670 - ?)
had the following children:
1. Stephen, (1695 - ?), m. Ruth Nichol(d)s
They had 5 children which I can list if interested. I am connected to this line.
2. Edward, (1696-1732) m. Abigail Gaskell and m.2.Anne Judson Two children for him by first marriage.
3. Hannah (1697- ?) m. Eliphalet Curtiss
4. Eunice (1699- ?) m. Jonas Curtiss m.2. Daniel Summers
5. Joseph (1701 - ?)
6. John (1705 - )
7. Ephraim (1707 -)
8. Eden (1707 -)
9. Patience (1710 -)

The father of John Jr. was John Sr., (1671 - 1762) and Mary or Hannah Culver (abt 1652 -1733) It is here my information starts to fall apart. One source I have says her father was John another says it was Edward. And the names change from Mary to Hannah. Since Edward was first used in this line here it stands to reason the parents chose the name for a reason. But it is not founded on anything.

The graandparents or next gen. back is Robert and Mary Burroughs.

Also in my notes I have the next generation to be Stephen, f/o Robert. Again I have no resources to know where I got this info. It is just a path to follow at this point but I hope it helps you. If you can prove any of what I have written I would like your resources. Also I will gladly share sibling info that I have or have not mentioned above.

I believe the husband of Patience Hinman is not the John Burroughs Jr. you stated. The John Burroughs (Burrowes) I believe married Patience Hinman was born about 1670 in Jamaica, Long Island, New York. He died 1712 in Stratford-Fairfield County, CT. Ref: New Jersey Book on biographies "BURROWES OF MONMOUTH COUNTY", pages 135 through 152. This John Burrowes was the son of Edward Burrowes and Mary Higby. See also "History and Genealogy of the Families of Old Fairfield". It was stated in the will of Edward Burrowes 'I leave to me son John Burrus, all the tract of land which lyeth near Pilgrim's Harbor, in the county of Hartford, in Connecticutt'. Will was dated March 27, 1705.

I am also looking for an Ephraim Burroughs born in Hunterdon County, New Jersey in 1773 and died Feb. 19, 1838 in Dearborn County, Indiana.

I am trying to trace my Burroughs connection. There is a William C. and a William F. I need to know who father is. I show Rozell as William C. and James as William F. but have been told not true. They came from St. Mary's Co. MD. around 1785 they moved to Coswell Co. N. Carolina. Any help will be appreciated.

The 1870 Census shows a William C. Burroughs with wife named Edn C. It shows a large family. I am looking for the 18 year old son named George M. Burroughs. I am trying to find a connection to my Grandfather. This family does not show up in the GA 1880 Census.

Dear Bettye: Hope this helps. William C. Burroughs was married 1) Mary "Polly" Ann Buzby in 1847 Madison Co., GA. They had 9 children (3 girls and 6 boys). Polly died 1865 in Madison Co., GA. Her youngest child Robert was only 2. He married Eada Caroline Porterfield in 1869. She had been married before to Samuel C. David m. 1856 in Madison Co. GA. (They had two children one of which is your George M. David who was born 1859 in Madison Co., GA) Apparently Samuel David died and she married William C. Burroughs. Don't know if he adopted the kids of not but Eada and William had 5 kids of their own during their marriage. William C. died between 1880/1890 in Madison Co. GA. About your George M. He died 10 Jan 1929 in Madison Co., GA and is buried in Old Danielsville Cem, Pres Ch, Danielsville, Madison Co., GA. He and his children are listed in his death notice: Comer News 1929 (says he died Thursday, January 10). He married Eliza Carter in 1878 and had 8 children. Then married Ophelia Lord in 1900 and they had 3 children. There probably would be census records for him and his wife and children but look under David not Burroughs. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need further info on kids or whatever. Thanks. Peggy
