Searching for William Henry Capps b. abt 1869. Was sent home to be buried beside his mother, Eveline ? Capps. They are both buried in Pine Level,Johnston Co.,NC. There are several other members of this family buried there, too. Need more info on William Henry Capps' family. Would also like to know if this is the Capps family that took in and raised the Edwards children after their parents were killed by Indians?

William Henry Capps was the son of Henry Casey Capps and Emile Evalin Edwards. I am not sure if this is that that raised the Edwards children. My theory is that Henry Casey was on of the Edwards children but I haven't been able to prove it yet. I do know that either Henry Capps or Henry Casey Capps married an Indian woman and that is how my family has the dark skin. The reason I belive that Henry Casey was an Edwards is this: In the 1850 Henry Casey (9) was listed as an Edwards with his sibiling, Thomas (7), Patience (5), and Saphrona (3). In the 1860 census they were listed as Capps. So here is what I have starting with Henry Capps.

Henry Capps born about 1796 died after 1870. Married Chelley Roxanna Thompson, in 1818.

1. William Henry/Henderson b. ca 1819 d. Dec 1849 m. Emilie Jane Raines
2. Elijah A. b. ca 1822 d. Oct 1859 of Typhoid m 7 Jan 1850 Rebecca Thompson
3. Mary F
4. Esther b. ca 1825
m. Soloman Daughtry 3 July 1843
5. Kizziah Caroline b 1 Sep 1830 D 19 Apr 1894 m. William Daniel Holt 29 Apr 1858
6. John T. b 4 Dec 1825 d. 9 Oct 1905
m. Agnes Hawkins Talton 20 Aug 1862
7. Monroe b. ca 1835

The following were listed as Edwards. There is no marriage record found for Henry and Morning Edwards.
8. Henry Casey (my gggrandfather) B. ca 1841 m. 13 Apr 1867 Emilie Evaline Edwards
9. Thomas died before 1860
10. Patience b 11 Sep 1843

Hi Dawn,

I'm trying to sort out the NC Capps families, hoping to connect my SC Capps family.

You mention finding no marriage record for Henry & Morning Edwards. Which Henry are you referring to?

From your message, I get the impression your family has identified as Capps, but you truly think they were Edwards. Is that correct?

Any additional help you could provide in clarifying the Capps families would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

There is a bible record in Johnston County in which I have a copy of. It is title the Henry C. Edwards bible. I have Henry Casey in my tree!

Henry Casey Edwards Capps married Eveline Edwards. She was born in 1836, and living with the Jacob Daughtry family(1850 Census, Johnston County). Jacob was married to Celia Edwards. She had an illegitimate daughter by a jacob Jackson before she married Henry. Her name was Sarah Jane Edwards, I have a picture of her, b. 11 Dec 1859, and died 25 Jun 1920.

What do you have on the Mourning Edwards Henry Capps relationship? The reason Im asking is because I have heard this before. My direct lineage runs like this and you can see why I'm intrigued...

Newsom Edwards married Mourning Davis 4.12.1834... (Still looking at this) (Newsom dies prior to 1850, last document was 8/31/1840, witness to Vine Edwards and Patsey Peedin marriage)

one known son, Larkin Haywood Edwards, b. 8/24/1835... (Living with Aurther Woodard in 1850, Census record, Johnston County)(Aurther was married to Appa Edwards)(it is believed that Eveline and Larkin were brother and sister).

Larkin's first son was John Newsom Edwards. his first son by second marriage was Major Walter Edwards. He was married to Della Eason. Della Eason's father was John D. Eason. John D. Eason's wife was Sarah Jane Edwards... Eveline's illegitmate daughter, and step daughter to Henry Caaey...
