I am looking for any information regarding the family of George Hardy and his wife Mahala Reed Hardy. From internet sites I found information indicating that George died in 1890 and is buried in Downieville and Mahala Reed Hardy Died 2/13/1902 and is buried in Sierra Valley, California. I called the County Clerk's Office but they had no record of this couple so I haven't been able to confirm this.

Can anyone give me any suggestions on where else I might find death records, possibly obituaries, etc. for that time period in Sierra County. I know their son George Henry Hardy and daughter Hetty Jane Hardy went to Inyo, California. I don't know what happened to the rest of the family that stayed in Sierra County.

Any help would be appreciated.

Nancy,

I make a trip to Downieville several times a year and would be happy to check on this information. I believe I will go up again about mid-October.

The County Clerk-Recorder has birth records (1857-present), marriage records (1852-present), and death records (1864-present), although some of the earlier vital records are incomplete. An index is available. I will check this as well.

If you have any additional information, please send it to me.

Nancy please contact me offline. This is my family. My Aunt let me borrow her 6 volume set on the history of Sierra County. I am slowly going through them extracting our family information. There is a map that has "Hardy Ranch" on it and a description of how he built a road so his children could attend school. Eileen

I couldn't find a George Taylor Loder in our family but there could still be a connection. Our Loder branch started with Jesse Loder (born in NY) who moved to California by 1876. I have names and dates of all of his children but not all of his grandchildren.
