Hi Alys,

In my family tree I have a Rachel ROSE who married a Samuel Victor CROSSE (known as Victor CROSSE), a dentist, in South Australia. This 'Victor' was the son of Samuel Massey CROSS, who was a descendant of an Edward CROSS (b1729 - d1765) who married Sarah MASSEY. Rachel and 'Victor' went to New Zealand in the 1870's/1880's, but I'm still trying to work out what became of them. Would love to hear from you - email me back at Thanks.

Hi there,

I am trying to find information on a Florence Anketell nee Crosse. Also her husband, Charles.

Florence married Charles Anketell in 1883, New Zealand.

Florence & Charles had two children to my knowledge, their daughter was Pauline Margaret Isabella Anketell & their son was Augustus Felix Anketell.

I am uncertain if this her...

Florence Emily Anketell, died 1918. This Florence would have been born around 1851, and not in New Zealand, possibly married into the Anketell surname.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, full name for Florence is..

Florence Emily Imelda Crosse.

Just found out in last two days Florence is daughter of Samuel Massey Crosse and Caroline Amelia Crosse nee Chevin.

I have very little info on Samuel and Caroline Crosse.

Any info would be appreciated.

Hi Jenny,

I am one of several people who have been compiling the ancestry of Samuel Massey Crosse who married Caroline Chevin. Your Florence is part of this story, but we did not know that she married. For more information please contact me as follows (but put the string together in one line).

I'm also interested in a MASSEY-CROSSE family in Bristol (England) but am getting nowhere fast with them.

My particular interest is Yvonne who was born in 1905, married in 1929 and died in 1959. I believe she may have been a sibling to Cecilia Gertrude (b 1908) and Samuel Victor (b 1911). Samuel married in Derbyshire (England) in 1941 and there is a son (still living) born to the marriage.

I've also found a Clement who was born in "North London" and, at the time he joined the Territorial Force in 1909, he was living in Whiteladies Road, Bristol (England). He was a dental student working for Mr MASSEY-CROSSE. He left the force in 1910 to emigrate to South Africa. More than that I don't know but there seems to be a very good chance he was the son of Victor MASSEY-CROSSE (b 1856, London).

Any help sorting out Yvonne's family would be much appreciated. I believe Victor may have been her grandfather especially as she had a son Victor.

So that's what happened to Florence.

No wonder I couldn't find her!! She's also added some given names.

She had a sister, Pauline, which is probably where she got the name for her own dau.

Florence's father was a Corn Miller and Merchant in 1851 but a Housing Manufacture in 1861.
