My great grandmother, Martha Cardin, gave birth to William Arthur Cardin on 3/7/1897 in Tellico Plains, TN. In 1909 Martha and her husband Tom took Art and moved west.I'm looking for Martha's maiden name. I have been told she was of Cherokee ancestry. This Cherokee blood line is what I'm interested in learning about.I have also been told that my Cardin ancestors had been called Kirkland but changed their name to Cardin because of relatives that rode with Jesse James.

My father was George Wilfred Cardin, born in Tellico Plains,Tn
May 13,1903. His father was James Onley Cardin. Uncles, Miller,Reese,George and Synonimus (Nonny)
My father had 9 brothers and sisters. J.Ullys , Delmas, Hollis, Woodrow, Lela, Mildred, Helen, Oliva, Herman
( not sure of all the spelling- doing it from memory )
My Grandfather and father came to Califonia in 1939. All of the brothers and sisters came to calif.
My Grandfathers brothers all died in the vicinity of Tellico Plains, Tn., except Nonny.
I think he moved to Southern Illinois, somewhere near Benton. His wifes name was Grace. The
other three brothers never married.
My Dad and I visited the town of Cardin, Oklahoma, in the N..E. corner of the state, near Miami, Ok
in the early 1970 's. The people there said the townsite was donated by a Thomas Cardin.
His widow died in Miami,Ok, probably in the early 1970's . We were going to see her but they said
she was in her 90's and probably wouldn't be able to converse with us. Her name may have been Martha.
I live in Alta Loma,Ca.. I have 3 brothers, Harold Raymond living in Montclair ,Ca, Harry Arnold, living
in Ontario,Ca. and James Vincent, living in Las Vegas, Nv.
My Mother was Thena Glenn McFadden, originally from West Virginia.
I was born in Benton Ill. I was name after George Ludwig, a rich man my parents worked for, with real estate holdings
in down town Beleville, ill and Dr. Laurence Moore, the Doctor who delivered me.
I hope some of this " rings a bell " for someone.

George Laurence Cardin
P.S. Cindy is one of my daughters.
( She did misspell my middle name) .

I wish I could be of some help but I don't have any precise information.
My mother told me that we have Cherokee in our Blood Line, she claimed that
there was a Cherokee Chief somewhere along the way, but she
never told me exactly who or when.
Sorry I don't have the information. My mother and father and anyone who
would know have all passed on.

George: Thanks for responding. My grandmother also mentioned a cherokee cheif and the Cherokee blood. Martha Cardin is my g-aunt. I have found from my cousin that her father may have been Leonard Carden b 8/9/1814 who was the son of Larkin Carden and Elizabeth Sentelle. Are any of these in your line? I cannot find out any more info. Thanks for your help. wanda

None are in my line as far as I know.
Did you see the entry for Larkin Carden,
Born about 1750 in Goochland City, Va.
and died Aug. 1789 in Fairfield, S. Carolina ?

Aloha George,
My husband Jim Cardin is the oldest son of Herm Cardin, therefore your cousin. I have been trying for years to find some information on James Onley Cardin's father, George Washington Cardin. Does anyone have any information on him? I show birth 6/19/1840 but no place of birth. Death 5/11/1905-no place. Would love some help.
