Curious as to the oddest thing other members have seen when researching graves.

I have seen some creepy yet beautiful art work on the stones as well... anything from an intricate sleeping lamb to abstract art.

One of the creepiest things I have ever read was on a tombstone in the older section of the Trindle Springs Cemetery in Pennsylvania. "Mortal, where you stand, so once was I, and where I lay so will you one day."

Sleeping lambs are a child's marker, and the one inscription quoted is not that uncommon. I've seen it many times in my transcriptions of cemeteries.

There is, "allegedly", on a small white stone on a Grave in the Athens Ontario area,an epitaph that reads:

Oh how we loved her none could tell,
For earth she was too blessed.
The croup it took her off last spring,
It left room for all the rest.

Thats so sweet and tragic... I cant believe how many children died of croup "back then". My son had croup so often as an infant, I cant imagine losing him over something so common.

Thanks for sharing!

Now THAT is like nothing I have ever seen before! This is amazing! I printed it out to see if my oldest (16 years old) daughter could figure it out. She has an IQ that supersedes anyone I know (yes including me lol), and is looking very seriously at a job in cryptology. She will LOVE this!

Thanks for sharing that link! I am still in awe of it... when you look at, I guess the last words we have are either lost to time, or we inscribe a warning, greeting, or even a puzzle on a piece of stone that proves we were here.

Thanks again!

"I told you I was sick"

and
"Pardon me for not standing"

Someone asked Johnny Carson what he would like. His reply...."I'll be right back"

The thing that always gives me the chills.....

Photos of the departed set into a headstone.....I've seen a number of them that were well protected by a curved glass or lens that magnifies it a bit. Some are almost like a jewelry setting...beautiful yet creepy.
