I am interested in compiling a list of sources, both primary and
secondary, which have information on the spouse(s) of Lt. Nicholas Stillwell.

Many sources list Abigail Hopton and Ann Van Dyke as the sposes
of Lt. Nicholas Stillwell, but this may not be correct. See
the following link which contains extracts from
Dr. John E. Stillwell's "Stillwell Genealogy"
published in 1929.

I am looking for proof of this line, too. My info shows Nicholas` wife to be Rebecca BAYLESS.
this was researched by Wm. Phillips, Memphis, TN, ca 1998. Does this jibe with your research? Please use my Email address to respond. Thanx! Caroline SIMS COON.

My great grandmother,Mary Rebekah (later changed by her to Rebecca) Stillwell was born in New Jersey in 1861,died 1941. she raised my sister and I and all we heard was stories of the stillwell's,of which there were many living in Trenton,N.J.area. I was born in 1928 and remember her stories well. There were so many sons named Nicholas it makes tracking them very hard. even brothers of Nicholas named their sons,Nicholas.

Do you recall her talking about some of the family going to Ohio?
In particular, Elias Stillwell is said to have taken his sons Joseph and Daniel and went to Miami Co., Ohio. Does that ring a bell with you?

yes,I do. mary rebecca stillwell said she was about 5 yrs old and the family went to ohio to seek their fortune. some stayed but her family went back to crosswicks,New jersy, near trenton . her father was a nicholas stillwell. mary was born in 1861 so this must have been right after civil war was over in 1866 approx. she never mentioned other family members that went but they went in covered wagons. she never read us fairy tales just told us family adventures and all and to never forget the name of nicholas stillwell. they were all proud of him and his accomplishments,I presume.anyway, I never forgot. she was a good storyteller.
