I am from S.C. My father is Claude Harris Steppe, Jr. His father was Claude Harris Steppe, however on my Grandfather and my Father's Birth Certificate there is not an 'e' on the end of our names. I think this was added by my Grandfather himself for whatever reason. My Grandfather was from the Hendersonville, N.C. area, and I do have the Stepp Family History Book which is rather lengthy, but I have heard my Dad speak of Aunt Sis many, many times, and he also has spoken of a Louise. Maybe we can learn from each other. My e-mail address is above. Thanks, Linda

My great-grandmother was Georgia Ann Stepp who married William Jesse Vinson in (I think) Tennessee in the late 1800's. They had 16 children; 12 lived to adulthood. They are: (sons) Jesse, Burly, Solie, Dalton, Artus Lee, and Henderson; (daughters) Lola Bertha, Evie, Edna, Mattie Pearl, Ruby and Lois. The family left McNairy County, Tennessee and moved to Bell County, Texas around the turn of the century. If any of these names match anything you can find in your family, we can exchange more specifics. Good Luck!!!

Were you replying to my message??? I'm sorry if I ignored you; I'm new at communicating this way....

Yes, I will be glad to share what little information I have...

Georgia Ann Stepp is my gggrandmother; she was born August 15, 1864 in Wild Goose, Tennessee, died Feb 17, 1941 in Runnels County, Tx. She was reportedly part Indian (it wasn't fashionable in those days, so we are not sure "how much" or "what tribe", we think half or quarter; her brother was a minister in Tennessee. She married William Jesse Vinson,(B. June 22, 1859 D. Jan 4, 1938) s/o Jesse Vinson Jr. and Lucinda Donaho of Tishimingo County, Ms.

William Jesse and Georgia Ann had 9 children in McNairy County, Tennessee, moved to Bell County, Tx around the turn of the century; had 4 more children, then moved to Runnels County, Tx, had 3 more children and where they are both buried. (I have names and dates of all the children; just not sure whether you want all this.)

I would be excited to learn more about Georgia Ann Stepp's family; since she left them behind in Tennessee, I can't even find "older" people in the family in Texas who ever remember meeting any of the Stepp family or remember knowing anything about the family...

Norma, My grandfather, Robert Nathan Stepp Sr. was from Wheeling, West VA and he married Sarah Van Essler. My grandfather had a brother named Will Stepp and he moved to Kansas from W. VA. My aunt Dorothy King has more information on older generations which I will look into for you. As far as I know there were no sister on my grandfather's side. BUT my great grandfather was killed at a train crossing in W. VA and my grandfather's mother remarried and that man was named Harris.
My Dad says there was a Cherokee tribe in Oklahoma. My grandfather says his great, great grandfather was a Cherokee Chief. I am researching this but expect it will not prove easy.

Best, Joan Stepp
