Don't know if you're related to this family, but thought I'd post it.

Letter to Clara Sansom Mabry (daughter of William Carter Sansom and G.daughter of of John L. Sansom).

The Sansom Clinic
317 W. Pueblo St.
Santa Barbara, Cal.
July 29, 1936

My Dear Mrs. Mabry,

My father, David Sansum, came to Baraboo, Wisconsin from Stroud, Gloucester, England in 1873. Three of his brothers, Charles, John, and George went to London, Canada about the same time. The other members of the family, John and Mary, remained in England. My father is dead. He told me that at the time of the French Revolution his ancestors left England to escape the guillotime. They were probably French Hugenots. They belonged to the artisan group, being loom owners. These looms were placed in the homes of peasants who did the weaving.

The family apparently prospered until the Industrial Revolution which put an end to hand weaving in the homes. My Grandfather wove by hand scarlet broadcloth for British uniforms until he died in his 86th year.

My father as a small boy went to work in a power factory and was an expert finisher until he left England. He saw no future for himself in England, hence saved his money and immigrated to Wisconsin where he took up a homestead.

I am afraid this information will be of little value to you, but am very much interested in the name.

Very sincerely yours,

W.D. Sansum, M.D.
