Searching for the parents of William Sadler who was born in Tennessee on 21 July 1815. William married Fanny Riley in Tennessee about 1840. They were living in Jackson Co, TN, at the time of the 1850 census. They moved to Union County, IL, before the 1860 census. Any help appreciated.

Don't know about a William Sadler, but my husband's family is from Union County, Il. His father was Alfred Sadler. Alfred's father was Elmer Sadler. Elmer's father was Sherman Sadler. They all lived in either Jonesboro or Anna, Il. Maybe there is a connection.

Did your Sherman Sadler marry Arminta Ann Hinsely, daughter of James Hinsely? This Sherman's parents were James Ervin Sadler (used his middle name) and Louisa Cavaness. Sherman & Arminta are buried in Casper Cemetery near Anna (Union Co, IL) Louisa is also buried there. Don't know what happened to Ervin. Anyway.........I BELIEVE that there is some kind of connection between Ervin Sadler & my William, but I do not know what it is. They were both in Jackson Co, TN, in 1850. And I believe that they came to Union County, IL, at about the same time (perhaps together??) William's son (Harrison) named one of his sons James Irvin, and the names William and Harrison are found in both families. If you have any more info, please e-mail me directly at Thanks!

Sadlers in Jackson County, Tennessee

I have some info you may find helpful. In our Sadler branch of the family we have a Nelson Sadler, who was born around 1810 in Granville, Tennessee (Jackson County). He married Betridge Scantland in 1830. Both appear to be buried in Jackson County, Tennessee. Could he be William's brother? Interestingly, Nelson had a son, William Henry Sadler. William Henry Sadler is my Great-great-great Grandfather who died in the Civil War fighting for the Confederacy.
I have information on another child of Nelson's- Lee Sadler. In a Tennessee Civil War Veteran questionaire (1914-1915) Lee stated that his grandfather was Henry Sadler. Sadler reported that Henry came to Jackson County, Tennessee about 1808 from the District of Chester in North Carolina. Henry Sadler was commissioned a 1st Lt. by Governor Willie Blount about August 1814 and Lee said he had his original commission papers. I hope this helps, let me know.

I believe that my William is connected to your Sadlers somehow, I just don't know how! The only research that I have seen on this bunch is DeCody Brad Marble's WONDERFUL work; however, my William is not mentioned. Neither is another family in Jackson Co in 1850...........Winney age 70 and Irwin age 14. These two people came to Union County, IL, at the same time as my William & his family. Could this Winney Sadler be the widow of a another Sadler? Is she the mother of my William? Is Irwin her grandson? Who is Irwin's father? SO many questions!!! If anyone wants to e-mail me direct my address is <>

Bert passed in 1944 (War). His brother Bill
