My maiden name was Farndell and I would be grateful for any information about our family. My father was Henry Oscar Farndell, born 1908, died 1960. He had two sisters and a brother, Roy who was killed during the Great War. His sisters were Dorothy and Min. Apart from their coming from Portsmouth, and their great-grandfather working on the Royal yacht we know little. Please Email with news.

His father was one of 9 children born in the war years.
Most of us still live in and around Portsmouth and as far as i know we all live in England.
If you find out any new info, please E-mail me. I know my grandfather would be really interested to know.

Dear Liz

I am doing my husband's family tree of Dredge but spelt Dridge in the 19th century in Emsworth. Granddad was Charles Dridge and his father was William born 1851. William's mother I believe was Jane Dridge who married James Farndell abt 1853 as I have found them all together in the 1861 census. So whether William is a son of James I don't know, as William was born before James and Jane married. James I believe was born abt 1829/30. The nearest James I have found on the IGI was christened 1828. In the 61 census they had children, Fanny Caroline and Eliz. Would be please to hear from you. Irene

Hi Irene, James Farndell (baptized on the 13th July,1828 at Warblington Church ) did marry Jane Dridge on the 3rd May, 1853 at St. James`s Church,Emsworth . His Mother and Father were James Farndell and Ann Miller and I can go back quite a bit further.
On the 1851 census James the Father was not there he had died on the 12th October, 1841, aged 39, buried at Warblington.His wife Ann had become Head of the Family, they were living at Saffron Hill Emsworth (which is now South Street,) James had moved out I would presume that he was William`s Father and might of been living with Jane Dridge,
James had quite a few Brother`s and Sisters, I also have their Marriages etc. if you wanted them.
I have on the 1861 census living at Saffron Hill James and Jane with their Children;
William age 10, a Scholar
Fanny Sara age 8 (baptized 2nd October, 1853 at Warblington,
Caroline age 6 (baptized 24th, June 1855 at Saint James`s Church, Emsworth,
Elizabeth age 3 (baptized 2nd December, 1860 at Warblington .

I hope this has been of interest to you , if you would like to know more contact me on my E-mail. Liz
