Do you expect Asher Pell/Bashford still to be alive?

Inquiry is to find ancestors of Pelle/Basford and to find out the crossover of why my dads last name was Basford and his Father last name was a Pelle. Both sharing the first name as Asher. Asher Pelle was my grandfather and Asher Basford was my Father. Both passed some years ago.
Thank you

You will need to give more info for anyone to help you:

* Was Asher the official first name (ie the name they were registered with at birth) of your father and your grandfather, or was Asher a second name?

* Do you know of any other first names for your father and your grandfather?

* When you say they passed 'some years ago' can you give an approximate date for your father, and for your grandfather?

* Where was your father born? Your grandfather?

*Any other family details / names / places etc

I ask these questions because an initial search shows NO births and NO deaths in England & Wales for an Asher Basford (or similar) or an Asher Pell(e) (or similar) from 1837 to 2006 - hence the need for further information to be able to investigate further for you.

From William's First World War Draft Registration his full name is William Ward Pell.
It says, born 18 May 1875, occupation Confectioner, nearest relative Mrs Dorothy Pell, 920 Boardwalk, Ocean City

The online database, Philadelphia City Death Certificates 1803-1915, has the death of a son of William + Dorothy which gives her maiden name as Willian.
Name: Arthur Arvine Pell
Event Type: Death
Event Date:,10 Mar 1911
Event Place: Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Gender: Male
Race: white
Age: 5
Birthplace: Phila.
Father's Name: William Pell
Father's Birthplace: New York
Mother's Name: Dorothy Willian
Mother's Birthplace: Bustleton
Residence Place: Philadelphia, Phila., Pa.
Burial Place: Philadelphia, Phila., Pa.
Burial Date: 13 Mar 1911

Is there a marriage for William + Dorothy? I can't see them together in the 1900 US census, only from 1910.

In fact I am wondering if William Ward Pell really can be the father of Asher.
A William Ward Pell married Josephine Cardwell in Philadelphia in 1898. They are in Philadelphia in 1900 with a son George, and her father. Wm Pell is a Confectioner. But here he says he was born in New Jersey in May 1873
This looks like the son George's birth
Pennsylvania, Philadelphia City Births
Name: George Charles Pell
Event Type: Birth
Event Date: 06 Apr 1900
Event Place: Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States
Gender: Male
Race: W
Father's Name: William W. Pell
Mother's Name: Josephine P.
It's possible that there might also be a a death registration of a son of theirs, William, who was born around 1899.

I wonder if this might be your grandfather's birth, again taken from Family Search, I can't vouch for the spelling
Pennsylvania, Philadelphia City Births
Name: Asher Borsford
Event Type: Birth
Event Date: 08 Sep 1899
Event Place: Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States
Gender: Male
Father's Name: Walter Borsford
Mother's Name: Pauline

Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Marriage Indexes, 1885-1951
Name: Walter Wood Bassford
Spouse's Name: Willian
Event Year: 1899
License Number: 109940

Name: Bassford
Spouse's Name: Pauline Willian
Event Year: 1899
License Number: 109940

Could Pauline later be William Pell's wife, Dorothy?
There are some complications though, it's all getting a bit tangled. They do have the son George with them in 1910, age 10.

You said that your garandfather Asher, born 1899, died in 1945, but in fact he died in 1927
From the Pennsylvania death certificate,
Asher G Pell
father William Pell, mother Pauline Willian
date of birth 8 Sep 1899

This is the same d-o-b as Asher "Borsford"

His likely real father was Walter Wood Basford
There is a WW1 Draft Registration Card for Walter ,
Walter Wood Bassford
Born 31 Jan 1875, a Sheet Metal Worker, living in Philadelphia
Nearest Relative, Asher Bassford

Could this be Walter in 1880?
Name: Walter W. Basford
Age: 5
Birth Year: abt 1875
Birthplace: Maine
Home in 1880: Saint Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota
Race: White
Gender: Male
Relation to Head of House: Son
Marital Status: Single
Father's name: Asher Basford
Father's Birthplace: Maine
Mother's name: Annie E. Basford
Mother's Birthplace: Maine

Asher and Annie certainly got around, they were in Pennsylvania in 1900, and Georgia in 1910. Asher may have died in 1932, age 84?
