The Michigan Index to Deaths 1971-1996 shows an Ollie Thomas born March 13, 1889, died 21 May 1989 in Detroit.

DEARBORN: Henry Ford Centennial Library (313) 943-2330, 16301 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn, Mi 48126.

Has the Detroit News from 1955 and the Detroit Free Press from 1970. To request a look-up and copy of a death notice/obituary, send SASE to above address Attention: Adult Services. They will not respond without the self-addressed stamped envelope. You must know the date of death or burial. There is no charge for this service as of December 2008.

For Clarence, if he died in Detroit, you can email the Burton Historical Collection of the main Detroit Public Library for a look-up in the City of Detroit Death Index.

Once you have his date of death, then you can look for a death notice. If the death occurred before 1955, then you can request a search from the main Detroit Public LIbrary. Cost is $15.00 last I heard.

For information about getting the death notice, click on the "Services" tab on the Burton's website.

For Ollie, you can first try the Livonia Civic Center Library. They have the Detroit News from 1980. Click on the webform under "The Livonia Observer Obituary Index". Mention that you want the Detroit News not the Livonia newspaper.

Thank you so much, I have since learned that Clarence died in TENN> So they would not have one in MI for him. But i will do as you suggest and send for the one on Ollie.

Thanks again.
