this line has been rather extensively researched by Nancy
Carter. Suggest you contact her nmcarter@infomagic.net
and tell her I referred you, if you wish.

Your Susanna Upshaw was the daughter of William Upshaw Jr. I am descended from William's brother Forrest Upshaw.
All descended from Captain William Upshaw, and, we think,
his father, Jeremiah.

Good luck.

If you want to communicate further with me, please do so directly at bobinoup@aol.com Thank you!

Greetings,

While doing some geneology reasearch, The Upshaw name was a priority, as I have a bit of information. The Upshaw line, I think we are reseaching is the same. I am a novice at this so bear with me:)

My ancestors in Upshaw line go back to, as far as I know, is to Willam (born c. 1666 in Gloucester Co., Va.) No info. on his 1st wife, but his mother as mentioned in his will was Cordelia Martin.

A widower, he married Hannah Forrest (c.1676-9) And she had been previously married and had a daughter.
The marriage of Willam and Hannah produced 9 children. Jeremiah b.c.1704. He is my ancestor along with another, Hannah(jr.?)...

If anyone is interested, I have a family history that includes info. on Upshaws.

fondly, Sue

Sue,
I am interested in your offer regarding information on the
Upshaw family and hope you can help me clear something
up.

I have Henry Crittenden, b. 1675 in Gloucester Co VA, d.
1766 in Essex Co. VA, as marrying Frances F. Upshaw
ca 1798. I don't have her parents. Henry was son of
Richard Crittenden and Anne Forrest. Frances married
Henry Tandy III after the death of Henry Crittenden.
William Upshaw was a bondsman at his estate settlement.

Others have the maiden name of Frances as Forrest
Forrest. I have searched but am unable to prove establish
concretely the exact name of Frances at her marriage to
Henry C.

Would you happen to have any information which might
help clear this up?

Thanks,
David

David,

New at this :) I started a reply that was either sent or lost in "space."
I think that I may have some pieces to the Upshaw puzzle that may help you. A notebook found has info on the questions we both would love to find out about. I will be more than happy to share any info we can get from it.
Crittenden, Forrest, Banks, Hunt, Middleton...and more...

If you did'nt get last email... the Upshaw motto is...Virtue by Wisdom.

looking forward to a reply, sfm

Can you be a bit more specific about this notebook? I'm descended from the Upshaw family that was in VA in the late 1600s.

Sue,
I didn't get the message you started. Would be
happy to work with you in solving this mystery.

I have Richard Crittenden marrying Anne Forrest and
their son, Henry, marrying Frances F. Upshaw.
These families were all in the same area and
intermarried frequently. It is my gut feeling that
Forrest is Frances' middle name....that her
mother's maiden name could well be Forrest.

Having said that, however, I cannot prove the
marriage to Upshaw either.

Anyway, any information or clues on where or
how to nail this down would be most welcome
and look forward to hearing from you.

David
