I have read your post of May 6, 2009 nand wanted to inquire about one of my ancestors. James H.(ester?) Fowlkes B. c. 1830-33, m. Jane C. Osborne circa 1860. They were both from Virginia, she from Chesterfield County and I believe he from the Charlotte County aea. He served in the Civil War in the Meherrin Grays. Their first child was Annie Bruice (Bruce?) Fowlkes and she was born in Charlotte County c. 1861. Their second child was Robert James Fowlkes and he was also born in Virginia about 1864. I saw that your post included a James Fowlkes and a Robert Fowlkes. You also list several "Bruce" (Bruice?) individuals. I wondered if you see a familiar pattern in the infomation above? James worked for the Railroad and they were in Guilford County, NC in 1870 (Foulkes) and in Rockingham County, NC in 1880. They were both killed in 1880 and my ancestors John Benjamin Taylor and Annie Bruice Fowlkes Taylor raised the minor children. I have researched Mrs. Harrels Book while in the library in Salt Lake City. This has been a brick wall for our family on this ranch and I would appreciate any assistance. Guerry Taylor

Hi, we have seen and read through these notes, What great information, I am searching the Line as well with special interest now on, James W Smithey who married Elizabeth Narcissa Fowlkes, (she also married Peter Bass first). This is our line, Here is my question i am praying maybe you have found some more info and would be willing to help me, I have found that they married in 1844-45 Not sure what County, and have not found the actual record of marriage, but the interesting part is, it seems in 1860 census it shows James W Smithey with his children and listed his wife INSANE, I also found a Elizabeth Narcissa Smithey listed at Eastern Insane hospital in Williamsburg,1850 census but no death listed for her? She couldn't be i both? They also had a child Elizabeth Narcissa Smithey. Shows James remarried and listed as widowed in marriage 1864. Do you have any information on this? Where was she ? was this person at the insane place her?, or If there the place burnt in 1885 and according to the marriage record he is listed as widowed in 1864 so she died before the fire? If you can shed any light on this mystery I would certainly appreciate it.
