Canada East was the name of the present day province of Quebec, between the years 1841 and 1867. The southern portion of present day province of Quebec was called Lower Canada from 1791 to 1840.

In Quebec, vital statistics (baptisms, marriages and burials) were kept only by the Church. To search for a birth in Canada East or Lower Canada or Quebec, consult the Drouin Collection.

Lots of Drouin records are also available in a book series- mine were in the book:
"The Anglo-Protestants of Megantic County Repertory of Births, Marriages and Burials 1826-1991"
The book is in a few genealogy libraries in Canada and in the Eastern Township Research Center, McGreer's Hall, Bishop University, Lennoxville Quebec.
Their website was www.etrc.ca but haven't been to it since 2006. Its basically the archives for Eastern Township region of Quebec.- Mary
