Let me know what you need on the Warnock side, and I'll see what I can do. My maiden name is Warnock.

I'm missing some info to, but I have quite a bit on my direct line.

A word of warning: there were two William Warnocks. (1) the William mentioned here, b. 1745, Ulster, Down, who did not emigrate, (though some of his descendants did) and (2) my ancestor William James Warnock b. 1746, Ulster, Tyrone, who emigrated before 1776 and settled in the area which became Greenup Co. KY. Some researchers for both lines have intermingled these families, and it is easy to go astray (as did I when I first started) so be aware that there are still some of these mixed records floating around out there. Linda Miller, (desc. of William b. 1745), and Laken Guinn Warnock & Jerry Wear, (desc. of William James), helped me "untangle" my records..
William James m. Elizabeth Carlisle; their four children, all b. KY, were Samuel Laken b. 1776, James b. 1781, George Johnson b. 1782 & William J. (birthdate unk.). Research in Ireland by three generations of descendants has failed to trace William James' ancestry. Hugh is not a family name in this line. Virginia

You are right, my 5th g grandfather William Warnock did not emigrate. His son John Wanock b 1789 in Ireland did. He emigrated to Ontario Canada. He died Jan 4th, 1877. He was married to Mary Hope b 06/01/1798. They were married about 1814 in Ireland.

Thank you for the info.

Who were the parents of the William James Warnock who settled in Greenup County Kentucky? These lines must come together back there somewhere.

No researcher for William James Warnock has been able to answer this question. Descendants from two generations traveled to Ireland with high hopes, but were unsuccessful. All Warnocks are thought desended from a common ancestor named Mhearnog (which, I am told, is pronounced "Warnock) who lived in Scotland c. 550-600 . A time-line which purports to give the history of the Warnocks from the earliest known record, states that "Brothers John, James & William Warnock migrated from Scotland to northern Ireland to work as tenant farmers under James Hamilton". It has been speculated that both the the County Down & Tyrone Warnocks descended from them, but though William of Down has been traced to Scotland, no such documentation has been found .for William of Tyrone.

I don't know the names of William James Warnock of Greenup co. parents the information I have is as follows: Warnock family dates back to Scotland when 3 brothers, like many other people, took arms to defend the Presbyterian form of church goverment. They were bitterly persecuted and fled to Ireland, where they found refuge. James, one of the three brothers, became a merchant of prominence in Inneskillen, County Tyrone. He died in 1667.
Attracted by the promise of religious freedom, several Warnock brother came to America before the Revolutionary War and some of them served with the colonists. Members of the family settled in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. Amound these were William James born in County tyrone, near Londonderry, who married Elizaeth Carlisle. he was with Daniel Boone in 1774 when he came with 40 men from North Carolina to Kentucky, and he was in Greenup Co. before it was organized. William James and Elizabeth had 4 sons, James, Johnson, William J., and Samuel.
I have the list of childrem that son William James & Lucy Forrester had if anyone is interested, also a picture of their daughter Malinda Alice (my line)

We all seem to get back to the 3 Warnock brothers, James, John & William or Hugh who left Scotland for the Plantation Settlments in Northern Irfeland in 1606. Bit no one has found their parents in Scotland.
