I am trying to find any information I can on ancestors of a Mirian Cruger b. 1889 in NY. She m. George Frazee from PA and had 3 children in PA, Lois, Lorraine and George. There is an old story that Mirian's family used to live in Boscobel, NY around early 1900 and lost it to back taxes. Can anyone tell me if this is true and/or who might Mirian's parents be? I show her in 1910 census in Hudson Co, NJ with her brother William, Aunt Billamy ___?__ and cousin Mildred, but I can't find anything before that. I'm helping a friend who is just getting started.

The Crugers of Boscobel were the family John Peach Cruger and his wife Eliza L.C. Dyckman. They had a large family, none named Marian, and all are accounted for in family and Bible records. However, one of John Peach Cruger's sons, John Whetten Cruger by name married a Frances E. Rusher and had a son by the name of William Rowland Cruger (born 1863 in New York City). William had a daughter Marion or Marian Cruger, born in about October 1889. He also had a son William Rowland Cruger, Jr., born in about Oct. 1892. William and his family (including his father John W. Cruger) are recorded in New York City in the 1900 Census (168 W 107th St., New York City, NY County NY, ED 554, Sheet 9). This may be the "Mirian Cruger" you seek. I would be interested in knowing, as I have researched the Cruger for many years.

I have a Cruger family in my tree and I am wondering if there is a connection to your Crugers. My great-great grandfather was Thomas A. Cruger, born NY. His wife's name is Sophia Jane, born NJ. They are in the 1860 census in Kings County, New York. Are you familiar with this family?

Cruger is just a name married once into one of my families. I can't even remember off-hand which one. Sorry I can't help you.

I am familiar with this family, although it is not my direct line. Thomas Adolphus Cruger, born probably in New York in about 1811, married Sophia Smith and had at least three children. I can supply more information if interested.

There are several Federal Census records. Two of the early records are as follows:

In the 1850 Census, Thomas Crooker (sic), laborer, 35 (b NY) is recorded in Williamsburg, NY, with wife Sophia, 25 (b NJ), and two children: Sophia, 10, and John, 12, plus Rebecca Moore, 30 (b Ireland), and her children: Mary Moore, 4, John Moore, 2, and Sophia Moore, 1. (1850 Census, Williamsburg, Kings Co., NY, Page 876)

In the 1860 Census, Thomas A. Cruger, peddler, age 49, headed a household in Brooklyn's Ward 16, which included Sophia J. Cruger, 38 (b NJ), Charles T. Moore, printer, 26, Sophia J. Moore, dressmaker, 21, Charles T.C. Moore, 4, and Sophia J. Moore, 2. They are recorded as two families living in the same dwelling. Thomas valued his real estate at $2,500. (1860 Census, Ward 16, Brooklyn, Kings Co., NY, p 641)

The Thomas and Sophia Cruger listed in the 1860 census are my great-great grandparents. Are these the same people in your tree. And, how are you related?

The 1850 census is very interesting - the first time I've seen it since I didn't have the spelling "Crooker".

Do you know when and where the Crugers immigrated from?

I have a tree posted on Ancestry.com called the Cavaliere Family tree - it is a public tree if you would like to take a look.
