Nelson Moore was my Great Grandfather. His daughter Josephine Mildred Moore married my Grandfather in 1905. Nelson was a member of the Sauk County Riflemen Co.A, 6th wisconsin (Army of the Potomac also called the Black Hats) He was a Leut. served from outbreak in June 1961 to end of war 1865. Was at every major battle. Bull Run 1 and 2, Antietam, Wilderness, fredricksburg, Gettysburg and 31 total engagements. Captured once and traded back in prisoner exchange at the Wilderness. He was also at Appamatox Couthouse when Lee surrendered. Nelson was married to Nancy E. Buried in Ironton Wi. Died 1867. Remarried Julia Bennett my grandmother and had 5 children. I am certain that William & Hannah Moore are Nelson's parents both Buried in Ironton Cemetery. Willliam b. 1814-26 June 1897 and Hannah b. 27 Dec 1814-30 Nove 1867. They lie near the grave of Nancy which has a headstone and a 2nd unused grave marked with Nelson's name. Nelson is buried at the Soildiers Cemetery in Orting Washington.

Washington Death Certificates, 1907-1960 lists Nelson Moore, death 24 Jan 1923, Orting, Pierce, Washington, Male, 83yrs, est. birth, 1840, married, spouse, Mrs. J.B. Moore, father, William Moore, mother Ella Kelley. The 1860 Ironton Census lists him living with William & Hannah Moore.
