iii. Peter Magee, b abt 1711, d Oct 13, 1766, married Mary Noble December 23, 1736
iv. Samuel Magee b abt 1714, d abt 1790. married Mary ?
v. Moses Magee, b between 1714-1716, married Elizabeth ?
vi. David Magee b abt July 1719, married Mary MacGlanary October 31, 1745.

Some sources say there was also a daughter, Lewin, born unknown, died 1790.

The McGee/Magee family was well established in old Somerset by 1700, George McGee who died in 1713 (married Maudlin ?) being one of the earliest. Caleb Megee, who published a work on his research in 1961, gave George's offspring, as follows:

i. JOHN, d. c 1729.

ii. THOMAS, b. 9 April 1686.

iii. PETER, b. 30 June 1688.

iv. SAMUEL, b. 4 September 1691.

In the next generation: Children of JOHN MCGEE, d. c. 1729, and ELIZABETH ? are:

i. PETER, b. c 1711, Somerset Co.; d. c 1766; m. MARY NOBLE, 23 December 1736.

ii. SAMUEL, b. c 1714; d. c 1790; m. MARY ?.

iii. MOSES, b. c 1716.

iv. DAVID, b. c 1719; m. MARY MACGLANARY, October 1745.

vi. JOHN, Jr.

Some members of this family removed to Sussex County, DE, on the eve of the American Revolution, and many descendants can be found there today. In the 1880s, one branch of the family returned to Somerset County, near Pocomoke, where descendants still live. As in most families, there were several who migrated, including one or more to Burke Co., Georgia, and, of course, elsewhere.

If you would be good enough to give a few additional details, some help might be forthcoming.

Can anyone connect the John Megee shown below with these Megees? Of particular interest would be any connection with the Briddell/Briddle family of Worcester/Sussex Cos.

I have an ancestor named John SAVAGE Emerson. He is the brother of my gg grandmother Sally Ann (Emerson) McCullar. He was b. 1 May 1803 in Mecklenburg Co., NC. I had not pursued the name before, so I can't tell you very much about it.
John Savage Emerson was the son of James M. and Susannah Emerson.
You may find out more in the book "Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Southern Arkansas", 1890 Goodspeed Publishing.

Just identified Jesse as the husband of Lydia (?). She is listed in 1880 & 1900 Census of Chincoteague/Assateague- Accomack, County, Virginia. Lydia was born in the 1830's. Are we talking about the same person. They had 11 children. George is the one I have been following.

I hope you don't mind my replying to your message - I do not think Connie is still posting. I am researching one of Jesse and Lydia's other sons, John Edward, who also moved to Chincoteague. His death certificate lists "Liddie" (Lydia) Savage as mother, Jessie (sic) Magee as father. I believe they are the same people shown in the Sound church register for baptism of George McGee in 1874. John Edward would have been born around 1853-4. Although I found all McGees on Chincoteague in the 1910 VA census, I have not seen a census for Chincoteague for 1880 or 1890. Can you tell me where you found these records? I would appreciate it. Thanks very much.

I found Jessie, Lydia and most of their children in Worcester Co., MD (St. Martin's District) Census in 1850 and 1860. I don't know where they all were in 1870. It appears Jessie was born in MD and Lydia in DE. I know there are many McGees in Sussex, Co., DE but haven't found a connection yet. Some reappear in 1880 but Jessie is no longer with them. I'm researching George. What is and where can I find the Sound church register?
