I am researching my mother's family. Have traced back to Michael O'Rourke, b. about 1800, married Mary Campbell on April 22, 1834 in Killygonlan, County Tyrone. Michael and Mary emigrated to Oneida County, New York. He died August 2, 1888 in Camden, NY. The family was from the Townland of Elagh, not too far from Cookstown, on the west side of Lough Neagh. There are not a great number of O'Rourkes in County Tyrone. Is it possible there might be a connection?

My gggg gran was Elizabeth O'Rourke.
She is supposedly born 1814 ireland (yet to confirm and parents unknw.) She resided in Dapto NSW Australia and died 1913 Dapto.
1850 she married Thomas Clifford in Dapto NSW. They had 10 children,Thomas, William, bridget, Cornelious, patrick, Abraham,Joseph, edward, Joseph and a daughter Jane Clifford whom was born 1851 Dapto and she married Martin Mc Carthy 1876 in Bega NSW. They had a daughter named Elizabeth Mc carthy among others but Elizabeth married Martin engleman and had a daughter Alice Cecelia whom married Bead herbert hackett whom had a son Lindsey hackett my grandfather who died late last year.
if this is the same lineage I can supply further info for you. If you could assist me with elizabeth's parentage confirmation that would be terriffic.
Kind Regards leslie

My O'Rourke ancestors emigrated from Ireland ( probably Tipperary) to Australia. So many of the first names you mention are familiar but I don't know enough about a connection. My gggrandfather Thomas O'Rourke married Margaret Divan. I don't know much about any of their children except for Cornelius my ggrandfather. Cornelius ( born 1858 Roscrea Tipperary )married Catherine Hanrahan in Maryborough Qld 1879. Cornelius and Catherine had 10 children - Thomas, John, Mary, Ellen, Margaret, Catherine, Johanna, Jane, Teresa and Cornelius. The youngest of their children, Cornelius is my grandfather. My father is Patrick Cornelius. I have been told that Patrick and Cornelius are names repeatedly used within the family. As you also have a Thomas in your family, there may be a link. Dad thinks that most of the o'Rourked emigrated to America when his ancestors came to Australia. Hope you see a connection.

Hi Catherine

My ggg grandfather was John Rourke b 1828 Ireland, married Mary Toole in Sydney 1857. I was just looking at your posting on the board and I couldn't help but see the similarities in the childrens names.

MArgaret
Bridges
Ellen
Johannah
Catherine
John Joseph
Thomas James
1 male deceased.

These details were taken from Thomas James' birth certificate, so it is possible that more children came from this marriage.
All of these children above, were known as O'Rourke.
I don't think there is any connection, but I just saw the similarities in the names and thought it odd.

Thanks
