I was surfing the Internet and came across this site. I grew up in Appomattox Virginia. Most of the names that people are inquiring about on this site are from the Appomattox area, I'm familiar with alot of the last names that are mentioned. "It's a small town"

Fergusons, Jennings, Meggisons, Davidsons, McCoys, Woodsons, Trents, Cox, Moses, Hubbards and many many more.

Please check Lynchburg, VA, Alot of the families moved out of Appomattox to a larger town. I also have a book written on the ancestors in the Appomattox area. Especially those with White, Black and Native American background.

Please don't let race stop your search. Most of the families in Appomattox are mixed or have ancestors of a different race than what they might have thought.

Please send info on your book from this area and price. Have been searching the Gibson family who lived in this area in 1850(part that broke off from Buckingham). Thanks so much. Peggy Galloway, 808 Vinson Road, Danville Ky 40422, 859 236 0816

Hello,

I think you are reading more into the prior message than is there. No book was mentioned at all.

I think the poster was referring to the message board itself as the site they were talking about. Unfortunately neither e-mail address used by the poster works.

Deborah,

Peggy doesn't have a book; she was thinking that the original poster had a book, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I have many ancestors from Appomattox Co. Va. Ferguson's, Smith's Morris', etc. Does your book have information, on any of these names? If so, I would be very interested in your book. How can I obtain a copy? My e-mail address is pinkyswdc@webtv.net

In 1948 Nathaniel Ragland Featherston wrote, "The History of Appomattox, Virginia; Also World War II - I and Spanish American War Service Record." It has since been reprinted and is available from The Appomattox American Legion Post 104, Appomattox, Virginia. The publication is a wonderful record of various families who lived in that county, has many pictures, and does have reference to the Smith, Morris, Mayberry, Megginson, and Ferguson families. For instance, one entry reads,
"Morris, Charles H., 1858-1920, Married Addie Ferguson, 1868-1946.
Children: Lawrence, 1884, Married Tarry Hatch of Disputana; Joel, 1887, Married Chessie wright, 1886; Bessie, 1890, Married Thornton R. Carter; John D., 1893-1932; Dillie, 1896, Married Leonard W. Carter; Odelle, 1898-1929, Married Mott McFadden; Abednigo, 1900, Married Nannie Carter, 1902; Nannie, 1903, Married Julian McFadden; Janie, 1906, Married Walter Frazier of Lynchburg; Jennings, 1908, Married Mamie Camper of Buchanan; and Neva, 1910, Married Wilie Hamilton."

In addition to this one, ten other Morris families are listed. Hope this will be of some help.

In regards to the book that you were referring to "history of Appomattox", by chance did they mention any Lewis, Wright, McDaniel, or Patterson? These are my maternal & Paternal grandparents. Is this available through the organization that you mentioned in your email? Looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you in advance for your time.
