What do you know about the Melvina Brock living in the home? Could she be the Elvina Brock who married as his 4th wife between 1860/1870 to Rev. Joseph Kuykendall of the Mills River area. Joseph's daughter Nancy Adeline married Jesse Allen, born 1821 s/o William born 1790 died 1883 Mills River. Robert H. is probably/possibly a brother to Jesse and could be where/how Joseph met Elvina, if that is she. Comments please.

I sent the Mills River minutes to your E-mail address.
Have you checked the cemetery at Buck Creek in Spartanburg County, SC to see what Allen's are buried there? Nancy Adeline Kuykendall Allen died April 1805 in Spartanburg at the home of one of her sons. I think that she may have been buried in Spartanburg County.
I think the answers to several questions regarding Joseph Kuykendall's family and descendants, Jesse & Nancy Kuykendall Allen's descendants may be in Spartanburg and Laurens County, SC. I do know that several of the family even into the early 1900's went to Spartan Co., SC. Some went to Pacolet, SC.
For some reason Rev. Wm. M. Allen took his second wife's body from Marion, McDowell Co., NC and buried her at Pacolet, S.C. It could be that he had other family buried there. His first wife was from Henderson Co., NC and his second from Transylvania Co. His first wife a Justus, his second a Powell with the widowed name of Orr.
If you read all three books of the church minutes you will see why I refer to Joseph Kuykendall as Joseph P. Kuykendall.

Wow! After all these years of wondering who she (Elvina Brock) was and what may have become of her. This internet business is remarkable. Do you by any chance have a copy of the Mills River Baptist Church records that show Malvina as the wife of Joseph Kuykendall? I have seen the earliest record (and my father received a letter from the church clerk in the 1940's so stating) of Joseph's first wife Ruth Guise and he were charter members and later where Ruth died, and then where Joseph and his second wife Rebecca Green were given letters of dismission and they went to Buck Creek Church in Spartanburg where he was the pastor from 1842-1846 and then returned to Henderson Co. So the record that you refer to must be in a newer book. How can I get a copy of that record. This is great! Do you know where Malvina Brock Kuykendall died or where she is buried? I've wondered if perhaps she may have had Joseph buried wherever she went to church. So it may be possible that Joseph is buried somewhere in Mills River. I have not been able to locate his grave even though it has bee speculated that he was buried in Fortune Cemetary with his third wife Hannah Capps whose parents are buried there. Can you add anything to this situation? You do know then that Robert and Jesse Allen's father was William Allen, correct? Again, you've made my day!!!! Betty

I know that Robert H. Allen is a brother to Jesse Allen of Mills River. I just don't know much about his family after the 1860 census.
Regarding Malvina Brock in the 1860 census with the Robert H. Allen family. She is the same age as Elvina Brock. She was a member of the Mills River Church. Elvina is a nickname for Malvina. The Mills River Church records list Joseph Kuykendall's wife as Malvina.

Do you have the name of Rev. William Allen's children? What religion was he?
I am looking for Lillie Allen who lived in Edneyville and for some reason also in South Carolina. She wrote love letters to my greatgrandfather, William Lewis Fortune who lived in McDowell County.
Also, my husband is a Kuykendall descendant and I was wondering if you would be so kind to send me the minutes of Mills River.
Thanks so much,
