I suspect this Phillips may be related to my James Oscar Phillips, Sr., born in 1866. He was in the Hawkins County 1900 census. He began a law firm called "Phillips & Hale", which is still run by his grandsons. He was still alive in 1948, though his wife Celeste Nannette Thomas had died by then. They had 4 daughters and a son. J.O. Jr was born in Rogersville in 1910, died 1977.

I'm looking for any further info on Sr - I have no idea where he was born, or who his parents were. I'm told he used to take my mother to a farm near Rutledge TN, that she remembers as the "Rucker Farm".

You may be interested to know that Winfield Hale of Phillips-Hale Law firm was a Judge at the Nueremburg War Trials. There is a plaque in the Hawkins County Court House. He use to send me a check for my Birthday in the 1940's. I am a Phillips that was born in Hawkins County, TN. My Dad use to take me to Rogersville to visit Winfield and Phillips at their office. My Dad Was John R. Phillips who died in 1950 and is buried in Rogersville. I do not know if we are related to J.O. Phillips but Judge Hale use to claim I was named after him.

I believe your Martin Phillips b. 12 July 1801, and my William Phillips b. Nov 1805 (my GGG grandfather) were first cousins. Martin was son of Robert Phillips, and William was son of Gabriel Phillips. Robert and Gabriel's father was John Phillips.

He and his wife were listed in the Prentice Price Records as living in Hawkins Co. District 14 in 1850, Martin was 49 and Jane Klepper was 37 years old. Two of his children included Susan 21(m. Setzer) and Margaret 19(m. Coward)also living nearby. Martin was born NC.

Martin Phillips is listed several times in the marriage records as JP.

I can send you the info I have.

Do you know the parents of your father John Phillips, I have alot of information about the Phillips family in the mid 1800s, much of this information came from the Price Prentiss records and other information I have aquired over the years. Do you know a Lyda Hamblen Phillips? Apparantly she provided alot of the Phillips information to Prentice Price back in the early 1900s.

I found some more information on Martin Phillips in the Prentice Price records. Martin's first wife was Rosanna Moore. They had the following children, eldest to youngest. Sarah b.1829, William, Thomas, Robert, daughter, and Zachary b.1841. I noticed that Martin remarried in 1842, so his 1st wife may have died in childbirth of the last child Zachary. See attached file.

Do you know if Jane Klepper was a relative of Frances (Franny) Klepper that married Thomas Jones, she was born in Hawkins County but died in Scott County, Virginia. Their son Isaac is my ancestor.

My William Phillips was born in 1823 in Sullivan County but
had moved to Hawkins County and was on the 1870 Census in District 7 in New Canton. He was married to Mary Marion, there were also nine children listed. His son Benjamin is my ancestor, he married Mary Alice Gray, they died sometime near 1900's. No one seems to know exactly when they died and where buried. Would you have any information on that?

Thanks for any information.
