Hi, I'm a granddaughter of Lydia Jane Reimer who was the daughter of Isaac Henry Reimer, and a descendant of Hans Jacob Reimer b ca 1680, possibly in Mutterstadt. Hans Jacob died there 31 Dec 1742. Place of birth is questionable because of the destruction of Mutterstadt in the late 1600's. I have a lot of info on this family. Would like to compare notes.

This is the same info I have, from the same source. I question Mutterstadt as the birthplace of Hans Jacib in1680 because of the destruction of the town in the 1680's or thereabouts. How do you descend from him? Thru Valentine or another son? i come down from Valentine and his second marriage to Anna Margaretha Stey.

I descend through Ludwig (1651-1712), next Hans Bernard (1687-1757), next through Balthasar Reimer who immigrated to PA in 1754. His sons changed their surname to REIMERT, I am assuming to relieve themselves of responsibility from debts obtained by their father, but that is only a guess.

I know the town was decimated in the late 1600's but from what i could decipher on the mutterstadt website, it appears as though the church and its records survived. I have been unable to find any good books on Mutterstadt in English (I don't read German) A book in German was recommended to me, but I have not obtained it yet.

Hi Jeff, Annette Burgert's monograph on "Early Pioneers from Mutterstadt in the Palatinate" goes into some of the problems in Mutterstadt. The church records apparently "re-started" around 1676 with one baptism, one in 1679, one in 1689. The church recirds allegedly show the former villages of residence of new inhabitants, and there was a German history called Mutterstadt in Vergangenkeit und Gengenwart, published in Mannheim in 1967. Some of the Mutterstadt families left Germany in 1709 and went to England. I have other families from the same area .... Mutterstadt, Heidelberg, Mosbach, etc.
You can always get translations on the web if you need them, but a good German to English dictionery also helps.

The only thing I can add at the moment is that Anna Maria Margaretha Renner was born at Fussgönheim, Pfalz, and Anna Catharina Sager was born at Ruchheim, Ludwigshafen. When I have more time, I'll compare your records with mine. BTW, where do you live? I'm in Cary, IL (near the WI border) I haven't done a lot of work on this family recently, but I'm very much interested in it. I'll get back to you asap.

I too am a descendant of a Ludwig Reimer Son of Stanislaus Reimer (1860-1940). The family immigrated to Manitoba, Canada around 1900 from Volhynia. Stanislaus and several sons, Ludwig, August, Peter are three that I am sure of.
The tendancy of naming sons after fathers and grandfathers makes it quite interesting. I am only starting my search so haven't a lot of information prior to 1900.
