Without more information it is hard to say for certain if the info I have found is correct.

I found the following in Sussex Co., VA (next door to Surry Co.)

Marriage:
Frank Claiborn b. 1856 in Sussex Co. son of R. Claiborn and M. Claiborn to
Geo'Na (Georganna (based on other records) Roshelle b. 1858 in King William Co. daughter of G. Roshelle and R. Roshelle on 26 Feb 1879 in Sussex Co., VA

1870 Census Sussex Co., Va
Ralph Claborn 45
Mary 35
Frank P.16
Phillip 14
Dorah 12
Steward 10

They are both referring to African-American families.

Hope this helps.
Sandra

Hi yes that is Georgianna Rochelle, who's mother was Rebecca Travis. George Rochelle was a house servant, but Rebecca was a Free Negro...her mother was a white woman from Southampton County.............Per Dr. Thomas D. Brown whom she worked or lived on his property. I have a lot of info on that family and the Claiborne's being that they are related. I will be more than glad to share info....
