Just wondering if there could be a connection with other Coles in Branch County, Michigan. I have Watson R Cole born June 1837 in Fort Bryon, New york settled in Coldwater, Branch County,Michigan with his new wife, Hannah Marie Wilson born Feb 1838 New York. He came to Michigan with other relatives. His parents were George and E Louisa Cole of New York. I have gone through the census, but there are so many Coles!! Watson had 4 surviving children to reach adulthood. 1 stayed in Michigan, Charles H Cole, born Aug 31,1862 in Coldwater. His other 3 children, George H, Jennie Belle and Seward came to Kansas with him abt 1880 settling first in Ellsworth County, then a few years later in Lyon County.

Do u think there might be a connection to my George Cole born abt 1812 in New York and your Job Cole? I was checking through my notes. I know in the 1860 Census they lived in Bethel township of Branch County. I found George had sons named John, George and Watson so far. Just wishful thinking I guess, for a possiblity that Job's father John is also George's father. Of course that would make things too easy right? But was just wondering if you would have anything in your notes. You can e-mail me if u like at

Okay...jumped ahead on my thinking. Thought perhaps Job had a son John and so did George and since they lived in the same area that close together, perhaps they are cousins or maybe brothers.

Yes there is a possibility of them being kin. Brothers is likely. There was George, Job, Jacob. George H. was born in Ovid Twp. MI. and Married Louisa F. Frease on April 22, 1873, he was 22, so he was born in 1851, but there is a George cole that was the witness to this union that could quite possibly be his father. George and Job both have sons of the same name. I have alto of information on this, e -mail me at kidlover

I too am trying to make a connection between these two. George is my 4x great grandfather. Lived in Mentz, Cayuga, NY and there is a Job Cole there too. Im thinking same family. I have looked at Parker Cole as the father, but no verifiable record indicating that yet. When I checked with the historical society, they have a Cole file, but it only has the census records that I already have. If they owned property, Im thinking that's a good link to see who they sold it too. George and family moved to Michigan in 1850s somewhere. Hes in 1860 census in Ovid township, Clinton County, MI. The older boys Watson and Jonathan as well as another John Cole served in the Civil war. Watson was a member of the GAR in Kansas.

George H is George Ws son. He died in a buggy accident. Watson moved with his family to Kansas. My 3x great Grandfather Alfonzo married, had a child and died in pretty short order in 1864. Hes buried in the Lockwood Cemetery. His son Lewis is there as well and my Great Grandfather, Harry too. Jonathan lost his wife early, leaving him with 4 young daughters. I cant see any indication that he remarried. The youngest went to live with another family member after Mom died (Sarah Kittredge Cole) Jonathan died under John B Cole in late 1890s as well. The girls in the family, Frances married several times, Delia Im having trouble with. The youngest married a Gallop (Gallup) and Adelaide is mentioned in the Branch County historical book with the sketches of prominent men mentioning George H. I have lots of other info on the rest of the family if I can help, it would be great if you would keep me in on the loop if you find something on this family. I will do the same.

Hello, I am looking for information that might connect your Job with my George W? There was a Job Cole also in the area in NY where my George was. I have no solid evidence that connects them though. Looking for George Ws parents and have not had any luck yet. I have a photo of George with three of his sons that belonged to my Great Grandfather Harry Cole. Would you have anything that might connect them???
