I know this is an old post, but I figured I would give it a try anyway. I a decendent of the same person and previously had found some other information about his parents, but as time as passed I've seemed to have forgotten where I placed it. I did remember, however seeing the original name as Brux and googled it. I came up with the following post. "According to Donald Hébert's SOUTH LOUISIANA RECORDS, Volume 1, page 131, a Philippe BRUCE
died 15 May 1826 at age 55. He is listed as a native of Senes, Italy. Hébert notes that the source of this info
is St Joseph Church in Thibodaux, Register 1, page 31.

The book has other entries relating to the Bruce family including one which states that a daughter of
Philippe was born in New Orleans. Scanning the series of books ARCHDIOCESE OF NEW ORLEANS
SACRAMENTAL RECORDS, I located the baptisms of two children of Phillipe in Volume 5, pages 50-51,
under the surname BRUSARD; Volume 6, page 38, under the surnames BRUX and BRUZA. Paternal
grandparents are listed in some of these acts as Jean Phelipe BRUX or BRUZA and Francisca CHIQUE
and Philippe is stated to be a native of Genoa, Italy.

The marriage of Phillip BRUZE of Genoa to Francesca CROCHET is in DIOCESE OF BATON ROUGE
CATHOLIC CHURCH RECORDS, Volume 2, page 166, under surname BRUZE. They were married at
Ascension Church in Donaldsonville on 19 Jun 1792.

Additional family details are included in the references noted above."

Didn't know if in the last ten years you have pursued anymore information or found anything new, but I would be greatly interested in it if you did.

Thanks,
Thomas Bruce

I have read your post and found it to have a lot of info on Jean Phillippe Bruce. I'm trying to get information on his father and mother. I cannot get past Philipe Jean Bruce and Francoise Chique. There is hardly any info as to their birth dates or their parentage. I'm limited to the materials I need. Perhaps you can guide me to where I might look for philipe jean bruce (bruze/brux)from Genoa/Genova. I am following the lineage backwards to see how far it goes. My great aunt_Justilia Bruce Lafont had once said that our lineage went as far as King Robert the Bruce. I'd really like to know if this is true. I wouldn't be disappointed otherwise. Just want to know the lineage.
My children are also interested, so I decided to start a family tree for them.
Please call me at 985 628-2683. My home address is now 4309 highway 24, Bourg, La. 70343.Thank you and hope your weekend is a good one.

I just saw this post almost a year later. But, no, we the Bruzze's, are definitely not decedents of Robert the Bruce. I have no Scottish ancestry. I took the DNA test and I have no percentage of British Isles DNA. I did recently get a copy of the original document were it was claimed to have said "Senes", but now having seen the original, I can assure with certainty, he was from Genoa Italy. And this is the only place in the world that the extremely rare "Bruzze" name is found in history. So, the "Bruce" name you carry now is Americanized. It was definitely "Bruzze" from Genoa.
