I am searching for any information regarding Isabella Chalmers. She married James MacKenzie somtime before 1883, as they had a son James MacKenzie, Jr. who was born in 1883 in Inverness, Scotland.

I know nothing more about Isabella. Her son, as family lore goes, immigrated to Canada and then to the United States where he eventually settled in the Pittsburgh, PA area. There he married Ellen "Nellie" Mercer sometime after 1910. Nellie's parents were Jang (George) Mercer (b. 1865) and Ellen Walker (b. 1867). James MacKenzie, Jr. died in 1923 in McKees Rocks, PA.

Isabella Chalmers and James MacKenzie were my 2G grandparents. I would be interested in any information regarding this family.

Hi Linda,
Maybe there is a link between your Isabella and my great grandmother. I know that there were Chalmers living in Inverness during this period[ a geologist and at least one clergyman], but I haven't been able to identify a direct link to her. Together, we might be able to solve these puzzles.
My g grandmother, Mary Chalmers was also born in Inverness in 1838. She married my g grandfather, Thomas George Stephens there. He was one of the engineers for the London, Mislands and Scottish RR and after they were married they moved on to Yorkshire. She passed on in 1926.
I don't know much else about her except that members of her family[including her] were all over 6 ft tall.

Hi Ron -

Thank you for your response. I find it interesting that those in your Chalmers line were known for their height. My grandmother, Winifred Ruth MacKenzie, who was Isabella's grandaughter, married Wilmer Wesley Riesmeyer. In German Riesmeyer means "big or tall man". Although I do not recall either of them being extremely tall.

I also have been unable to connect Isabella to any Chalmers in Inverness. I will continue to work on this and if I find a Mary Chalmers, I will let you know.

Regards,
Linda Scott

Linda,

Are you my niece, Linda Lee Benson?

I have different information on James MacKenzie's parents that I got from his
death certificate. According to the information on his death certificate, his parents were Alex and Mina MacKenzie. I'm guessing that Mina was short for Whilomina. I did find a marraige certificate for an Alex and Mina in Scotland. Mina's last name was "Black."

I know that my Mom, Winifred was only 5' tall and my Dad, Wilmer was only about 5'10".
