I didn't have a chance to complete this yesterday so I am going to post a will from the "New York Calendar of Wills" Fernow. Moses Michal, widower of Catharina Hasher, was of the Jewish Nation of Curacao. "Adm. 6-10-1740. Executors: were his four sons-in-law in New York. and Isaac Levy Maduro/and Cohen Henriquez,Jr. of the Island of Curacao. Witness: Nicolaus Henricus and Laurents Laan. Their children were Johevit (Jochebed?) who married Judah Means. His will per anc.com can be found in "New York Wills 1626-1836". He is also on the Board as the wife of Jochebed. The will definitely states that they are all males! He can be found under Mears? ....Rachel married Samuel Meyer Cohen. They had two children Elkaley and Hayah, who are on the board as Elkaleh and Hiah. Elkaley is also listed as the son of Moses & Catharina (no!). They had four (4) children. Johevit; Rachel; Rebecca; and Bloeme. Rebecca married Judah Elhays and I believe I also saw him listed as Judith! He can be found on the board as Hays. and last is Bloeme (Blume) who married Aaron Louzada y Zulex. I would like to know what thay y Zulex stands for if anyone knows. Catharina Hasher is shown on the board as Hachar. She had to have died before Moses as he is a widower and his will was dated granted in 1740. I hope this helps someone. Ann

The "y zulex" normally indicates that his mother's surname was zulex. There is,
however, a problem in that Aaron's mother according to the records of the
Spanish-Portuguese Synagogue in London was Rachel de Almerda. John
Luzader

I can't remember where offhand but I read that Almerda was a mistranscription of Rachel's name, and actually it is Almeida, which is more consistent with the Ladino/Portuguese/Spanish last names.

Records from the Bevis Marks Synagogue in London, prompts us to question the accuracy of the accepted marriage records of Jacob Louzada. This Jacob is generally identified as the father of Aaron (1693-1764) and Moses Louzada (1700-1750). He died in 1729 and was interred in the Chatham Square Burial grounds in New York

First let’s start with the book Volume II: Bevis Marks Records, Being contributions to the history of the Spanish and Portuguese Congregation of London, Edited by Lionel D. Barnett, Part II, Abstracts of the Ketubot or Marriage-Contracts of the Congregation from Earliest Times to 1837, with Index, Published by the Board of Elders of the Congregation, Oxford, Printed at the University Press, by Charles Batey, 1949.

Page 65, [Record number] “64. Abram Lozada and Sarah de Almeida. 6 Kislev 5459.”,
[Record number] “65. Jacob de Lossada and Rachael de Abraham Lousada. 6 Kislev 5459.” [The date translates to Sunday 9 November 1698.]

The spellings above are exactly as they appeared in the records.

Previous Luzadder family histories list Jacob de Louzada married to Rachael de Almerda with Jewish Rites in 1698 in the Spanish & Portuguese Synagogue of London. The records show that both couples were married on the same day, so this might explain why the surname “de Almeida” could have been transposed in location and spelling and listed as Jacob’s wife. The term “de” means “son of” or “daughter of”, so the record of Jacob’s wife “Rachael de Abraham Lousada” affirms that Rachael was the daughter of Abraham Lousada. The records do not provide infornation to show how Abram, Jacob and Rachael were related. Of the 20 Bevis Marks marriage records, for that time period, involving the Louzada surname, 7 or 35% of these unions both bride and groom shared the family last name, with variant spellings using the letters “s” and “z”. This reflects a custom of the times - marriages involving bride and grooms who were cousins.

Isaac Louzada born abt 1770 In New York, appears to come from the same line. I notice some of the records list Jacob with the last name of De Louzada.
I think Isaac may have been the son of Moses, but that is just a wild guess. Isaac married Catharine Lozier May 8, 1802 in Trinity Church Parish, NY, NY. They had children Alfred Louzada m. Louisa, Mary Ann Louzada m. Mr. Sell, James Louzada b. Feb 22, 1813 in New York m Kapuu a Hawaiian girl, Adelia Louzada b. Feb 13, 1820, in New York, m Henry Cornwell, Hannah Williams Louzada b. I have quite a bit of information on this family. Do you have any information on them?

Hi, John - Please check out my messages about Isaac Louzada and Catharine Lozier from Williamsburgh, Kings County, New York. I am trying to discover how Isaac is related to the rest of the Louzadas in the area. He was born in New York abt. 1770.

No, don't have much information about the Louzada family, other than for Aaron d. 1764 and Moses d. 1750 and their family. They were in the New York area during the 1720's or so, and New Jersey until about 1800's. Have more details about them and some general info about the family before they came to New York.

The only male children I have for Moses is Jacob b. abt. 1743 and Benjamin. Jacob was Moses' heir. Benjamin and sister Abigail are mentioned in Aaron's (died 1764) will as orphaned children of brother Moses. Could this Jacob or Benjamin be the father of the Isaac b. abt. 1770 in you posting? The only male child I have for Aaron is David b. abt 1760 he married an Abigail and died in 1800.

Here are the scattered items I have. Some might relate to a few of the people you list above.
Isaac Louzada; 1829-30 Manhattan N.Y. City Directory.
Alfred Louzada, Tavern owner; 1839-40 Manhattan N.Y. City Directory
Louisa Louzada, widow of Alfred, 92 Third Ave.; 1890 N.Y. City Directory
Eliza Louzada, included with the John Cozzens (sp?) family as a sister-in-law, 1880 US New Brunswick, NJ census.
Hester Augusta Louzada married Alexander Sellman in Baltimore, Md.; at least one son, James Louzada Sellman b. 21 June 1854 in Baltimore.
David Louzada b. 1795, d. 1849 - may have been the son of David listed above.
Isaac Louzada, 1820 US Washington Co., Ill census.
Albert and John Louzada, Company I 6th Missouri Inf., Civil War Service Records, Ancestry.Com.
Julius W B Louzada b. abt. 1868, 1910 US Manhattan, NY, NY census.
Jacob Louzada, Seaman on the Privateer "Gen Armstrong", this listing came from the book "War of 1812 Pensioners" Vol. II by Virgil D. White. The National Archives sent me a letter that they could not find his records.

Hope there is something that might help. I'm always interested in adding to the family tree. I have more info about Aaron and Moses Louzada listed above and the Luzadder family if you are interested.
John

Thanks - These are related:
Isaac Louzada; 1829-30 Manhattan N.Y. City Directory.
Alfred Louzada, Tavern owner; 1839-40 Manhattan N.Y. City Directory
Louisa Louzada, widow of Alfred, 92 Third Ave.; 1890 N.Y. City Directory
I don't know about the others, but the one that called his/her son by the name of James Louzada whatever could be related too.
Did I tell you all the names of the children of Isaac Louzada b. abt 1770?
