My Edinger ancestors allegedly were Hessien soldiers in the American Revolution, paid soldiers who fought in New Jersey and when their time committment expired they settled in the Pocono Mountains of NorthEast PA. My paternal grandmother is Eloise Edinger Lewis her brother was Joseph Edinger. They grew up in East Stroudsburg, PA. We have a small, but growing Edinger reunion every summer.

The following information is all I have on
my ancestor, Maria M. Edinger. I hope you can tell me who Maria's parents were.

By the way, I just read a book, "The Drums of Winter", by Sandra Paretti. It is the first book I have ever read about the
Germans who fought the Americans during the Rev. War.
When is the Edinger meeting.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

To Barbara Thompson, please email me at

I appreciate your sending all of that information regarding Northampton County, PA. Monroe County, PA was not formed until April 1, 1836, so prior to 1836, Monroe County was part of Northampton County.

Directly, I haven't run across a Maria M. Edinger but I'll review my notes, etc...

In the 1770-1780's two Edinger brothers or a father and son moved to what is now Monroe County, near Stroudsburg, PA. Some Edingers of that clan still remain in the County, of which I am one. As in earlier messages, my grandmother, Eloise Edinger Lewis, born 1924, grew up in East Stroudsburg, Pa.

Going through my husband's ancestor book, I found that his great grandfather's name is Joseph Edinger and that his family is from East Stroudsburg, PA. I don't know if Joseph had a sister or not. My husband's grandfather is William T. Edinger.

Thanks for the note. I'm just starting out on the Edinger side as well. We just expanded a close family reunion to include a few more Edingers from the area. Two Edinger brothers from Hesse, Germany settled near Stroudsburg, PA around the 1780's. Most local Edingers trace their roots to one of those brothers.

As to Floyd and Flora, I'll have to get back to you. Please email with more information, if possible.
